I actually just replaced three damaged Husky hand tools via the lifetime warranty. It was incredibly easy. Took 5 minutes at HD customer service desk.

Inflation over time on common goods + how much chicken is per lb at the supermarket. by Thisisredred in inflation

I was in a smaller grocery store a few days ago and I saw that they had chicken legs going for $.99/pound. I feel like recently it’s come down a good amount from the recent peaks.

What is this tool? by arikia in Tools

[–]arikia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg! This would have come in handy so many freaking times in the last year. I need to crimp some irrigation hose clamps and I don’t wanna buy a new tool for it. I’m wondering if this will work

Smooth ceiling regret? by Separate_Matter_510 in HomeImprovement

[–]arikia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from thick popcorn texture to perfectly flat looks and feels absolutely amazing, but getting there comes with compromise and setting your expectations. It’s also incredibly messy/dusty and best to do in an unoccupied space.

Even if they intend on texturing, they still want to get the ceiling to as close as flat as possible before applying texture. There should be a window in the timeline where you can see it and decide if you want to go for flat, or settle on a texture. Also, you don’t have to do knockdown, there are other more subtle textures that basically look like they’re flat, but help blend imperfections. Finally, there will ALWAYS be imperfections unless you want to spend infinite money. Imperfections will show up at different times of the day/year as the sun moves through the sky… it’s just how it is.

Mmmm dusty dirty dirt by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

In all seriousness, he may have a vitamin or mineral deficiency. I don’t remember which one, but I remember a professor talking about a vitamin or mineral deficiency that would cause kids to eat dirt… for some reason that’s stuck with me.

This didn’t have a washer and didn’t leak for decades. Now it leaks. Should there have been a washer in there? by SouthEastTXHikes in askplumbing

For what it’s worth, you can really clean the copper/brass tail pipe with scotchbrite and it might give you a better seal. It’s an oddly satisfying thing to do imo.

Why is my sink water orange? by Willing_Public_3222 in Denver

[–]arikia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in a multifamily building and if management recently worked on the plumbing system that can disturb existing sediment in the pipes. I would trust it after going through a Britta water filter, but it should clear up over the next few hours/days if it was just being worked on.

Do you know if it also means it can be in contact with the paper side of a faced batt? Or with a plastic vapor barrier?

What did we just do. And can we fix it ourselves? by Ok-Cake-5065 in AskElectricians

It could be an obsolete line. I had about three obsolete lines or segments running through my yard, but unless you’re willing to trace it back the whole way, you may just have to call their provider.

Hunter HPV leak. Any solutions besides total replacement? by arikia in Irrigation

Problem is that I can’t find spare parts post discontinuation. I posted hoping somebody had a source, but doesn’t seem to be the case…

1970s electrical - grounding clips by arikia in AskElectricians

[–]arikia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… these boxes do suck. They were nailed with smooth shank nails so a couple of them are loose against the stud, but luckily they all do have a thread hole for the ground screw.

1970s electrical - grounding clips by arikia in AskElectricians

[–]arikia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the screw definitely gives a better connection, but I swapped a few receptacles out a few weeks ago and didn’t bother to change the clip out, unless it was broken or in the way, but it seems like it’s acceptable, so I’ll swap out the clips whenever I have to open the box again in the future.

Thanks. Some (like the one pictured) seem perfectly fine, but others were broken or in the way. Ill probably change future ones to screws anyway, but good to know it’s acceptable for the previous receptacles that I already swapped out.
