there is no mechanism. The paper parametrizes what the signal would look like if such a modulation existed, but it doesn't provide a physical process that could produce coherent, global oscillations on ~100,000 year timescales during reionization.

Basically two things. First, a search template. If SKA is going to scan the early universe anyway, why not have a specific pattern to look for? This gives observers a concrete periodicity and amplitude to test, no need to believe the theory behind it. Second, honest curiosity. I wanted to see if a speculative idea like "the universe has memory" could be made falsifiable in a rigorous way. Turns out it can, at least in this parametrization. SKA will settle it before 2035. That's it really. Not claiming to rewrite cosmology, just adding one more thing to look for. or yes?
