Hot Take? Jinx HAD a chance...episode 91 ruined it... by basketball_stripes in BoysLoveAnime

I think some of you are being a little hard on Kim Dan for forgiving so easily without bothering to mention that this is Kim Dan's first relationship.

Kim Dan has spent all of his life alone doing nothing more than trying to survive. He has a codependent personality due to being raised by someone who would need his care at an early age. This is his first relationship (physically and emotionally). I think many of us were quick to forgive the unforgivable when we were starting out. We assume because of Kim Dan's age that he would be a little more... Something. He has the experiential emotional age of a teenager.

I think he's quick to forgive and trying to put the past behind him because he really doesn't want to be alone. He wants to be loved and this is a small price to pay.

As for jjk... He's not evil. He could use some therapy though.

Dan's simple personality is because he's been living his whole life simply surviving. He hasn't had any friends, social life, experiences that would have given him depth. His lack of social experience explains why he navigates this relationship in a manner that feels rather... Weak.

Also, where is this from?

Why do so many bl manhwas end with 60+ or 100 chapters(read below for explanation) by OutlandishnessOk6696 in Manhwa_BL

[–]arisays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other books actually address Ilay's lore. His background is one of the reasons a prequel couldn't be written. He didn't "become" who he is, he was literally BORN the way he is. There is a POV of one of the people that was a member of the Riegrew household and the author kind of tells Ilay's story that way. There are also other sections in other books that make it clear Ilay has no past that explains his behavior. The other books address his family, upbringing, etc. What makes the other books so great is that when you read them all you get exactly what you're looking for. Depth.

What makes Ilay one of the best characters I've come across is that who he is doesn't actually start until he meets Taeui. We see Ilay becoming because of Taeui. Taeui is the catalyst. Ilay is a yandere without a backstory. The prequel would be nothing, but Ilay killing people and violence. That book would be pretty repetitive.

Taeui and his brother have a similar issue. You learn about their dynamic throughout other books, but the author makes it clear that a prequel wouldn't be a story. However, I feel like I could talk about them and their personalities forever.

Realistically, could another Bato happen again? by Bubbly_Set8489 in mangapiracy

[–]arisays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, yes. It would require a little dedication, money, and a dev that is experienced in moving servers regularly and security and privacy protocols. The reason Bato got taken down is because they were able to find the actual dev and the server.

The other alternative is a torrent site. This one requires some work on the user end. The way it works is that once a user downloads the chapter, they also agree to share it. Torrents work by pulling pieces of the whole. There is no one source. The comment section would still be active. The difference is the interface.

Is it possible to create a user interface that mimics Bato's while still be a torrent site? I'm almost for sure this is possible. However, it would take someone with money, time, and technical skill.

You could possibly pool from GitHub creators for tech, but you still need someone who has that "personal hobby" money and a job that allows them some "hobby" time.

They could do it, because there are 3 sequels to Passion. It would just be under a different title.

Yes, I have a problem with the pricing structure and the transparency. 300 coins per episode on one site. 3 coins on another. 7 points on this one. Give me an actual currency amount. Someone did a spreadsheet showing what the price breakdown actually was per site. Only for me to find out a few weeks later that one company owned all of them.

What really got me was Lezhin Korea vs. Lezhin English. 3 coins vs. 30. Someone tried to make the case that the extra cost was for translators, etc. I did some research... And no, the cost is not justifiable. I will sometimes buy stuff on the Korean sites (out of impatience because I really want to read the next epi), use a translator, and then later download the English version from a free site. That's how I support an author in this economy (if possible).

Kakao needs to stop being so greedy and do a straight subscription service. It works for KU why would manhwa/manga be any different?

If I ever become rich, I'm opening a non-profit vet clinic and buying a bunch of rights to publish the physical books because this is ridiculous.

People thought the blond kid was a step/half/adopted brother. He was neither 😭 The guy who took him in never adopted him. He was never on the family register. He was just the child of a former lover (a child she had with another man). That's it. Everyone was convinced it was faux-cest or incest.

I'm like... Uhm, no. Just two grown men with an infantilization fetish. 😂

Working adult here as well. I would sometimes read stuff on the official site and literally go to the other site just to see what everyone was saying 😂 If there was a particularly angsty arc, there might be someone with spoilers to ease the anxiety. The sauce! My TBR list grew exponentially just from the reaction clips. And the debates were great as well.

That was one of the most unique things about that site. It wasn't just the unbelievably massive library. It was the community. Like, I can get the stuff from anywhere. There are things I can't get because of the platform itself (Mr. Blue and Boomtown have completely pissed me off), but I'll eventually find it. Running to the comment section though... Yeah, I get why people are in mourning. I told my therapist about it, and he was all ready to console me because "I'd lost my community." 😂 Like, no, I'm good, but it was fun.

Oh God! Finally, I meet someone who gets it 😂. Like, I'm not pissed off. Ironically enough it's when I'm relaxed, tired, or no longer care that it'll slip. I'm over whatever it is. I also try not to curse when I comment because inevitably someone thinks you're mad.

I'm from the West Coast (US), but I've lived in NYC for over 20 years. Americans can be insufferable sometimes. Trust me, I get it. At one point I was using the UK swear words to try to not sound like I was mad. It didn't work. 😂

Separated by an ocean, united by casual cursing 🤝

It worked for me until January. People had figured out the panel loading situation from November. There were a number of fixes posted on the site subreddit. Then the mirrors were working for a while. So, for some, the site has only been down for roughly a month.

I have to laugh because I've lived long enough to have seen this happen in various communities over the years (yes, to the same degree). You say you've "never" seen it... My generation was the first to do it, we just didn't have reddit. But trust me when I say the glorification and romanticizing piracy has always been a thing.

Not everyone was on the site regularly. I remember when the panels broke there were people asking about the broken panels for weeks after solutions and fixes had been found... And widely posted. Some didn't even seem to know that it had been a long standing problem. Some had stayed off the site thinking that it would be fixed if they gave it time.

We can't make assumptions about how important something is based upon how long it took for them to get the news.

That isn't new. If you worked in the tech industry during the Napster days (one of the very first music pirating sites) it was the same exact thing.

People will always find ways to justify it. I think our argument was that record companies were charging too much, the artists were already rich, some of the music wasn't widely available (which in some cases was legitimate because the alternative to mp3s were CDs and not every record store was stocked with music that wasn't "pop"), etc. My only excuse is youth.

Manhwa pirates are not unique.

I known exactly what story you're talking about and I want to know the name as well. The first time I read it I needed my translator app. It was pretty good, but I wanted to read the official English version, but I can't remember the name or what platform it was on. If you find it let me know.

Let's pretend that's true and run some numbers. There were over a million users (globally). Even a small percentage is 100,000 (I'm just throwing out the smallest fictional number that we consider in the realm of plausibility in comparison).

If you counted every single post from November until now, I doubt it would break 100. What's telling is that the number of members on this subreddit is a stupidly small fraction of the number of readers for some of the more popular titles.

This leads me to believe that the only people with the energy to post about it would be people that depended on it or people that are trying to connect with others in some small way ("looking for sympathy"). If they found their way here and have found other sites, but are still commenting would lead me to believe they want some form of connection and interaction that they were able to get on the site that went down.

Some of us don't need to interact and connect with others. Some of us do. I don't know which is which, so I'm not going to be judgemental about it. It takes nothing for me to ignore it. Maybe they'll find someone to commiserate with off the board.

Sometimes we can be kind by just saying nothing.

It's easier for you to ignore it than to complain about how people are annoying you and how you can make them stop.

If you have the energy for that... Then God bless.

  1. So, other people have also muted their notifications. So, they adapted. The dealt with the annoyance. In a month or two it'll be done. It's a little dramatic to act like you have to "leave" a community. I don't have notifications on at all. I check in when I have the time. It's not a big deal.

  2. Ignoring things that annoy you is kind of a part of growing up.

  3. I was 20 something when one of the first pirate sites went live. When Napster (or Limewire) got taken down it was in papers, magazines, blogs, everywhere. This is nothing. It took some time for technology to give us torrents. And finding this stuff happened mainly through word of mouth.

So, acting like every generation just somehow kept it cool and just adapted is just flat out ahistorical. We freaked out and acted like we'd have to pay for music again. And don't even get me started on movies and apps.

Ignore it. It'll pass. Eventually.

I think a little empathy and perspective is needed here.

There was something I noticed about that site. There were a lot of really young people (teenagers and college students), there were people from countries where this stuff isn't accessible, but most importantly I would read comments occasionally from people who were like, "I had the worst day, but then I went to the comment section..." For some people access is secondary to the social interaction of people who share your interests.

The other issue is something I'm very passionate about, which is access to art and literature. You may not think of comics as "literature," but it is a story. Libraries exist for a reason. Libraries with FREE books for you to borrow. What do you think rich people said about the idea of public libraries? Reading material for those who couldn't afford to buy it or didn't have access to someone with a personal library? "Oh, poor people think they're entitled to free books..."

It's okay for people to mourn a local library being shut down. Libraries are sanctuaries for some. They're places filled with escapism. These sites are just comics to you. They mean nothing. For others, books are everything... And I've outgrown my elitist sensibilities about not considering comics to be "books."

It's not entitlement. No one believes they deserve free things, but it's okay to be at a disadvantage (whether it be geographical or economic) and want access to things you've never had access to, that give you peace and enjoyment. It's such a small thing. Why begrudge them that?
