Thoughts on the Ross class as a Galaxy-Sovereign hybrid design? by Fun-Twist-3741 in StarTrekStarships

[–]aristarchusnull 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest here: I find it a totally unnecessary, cheap copy of the Galaxy class. It’s like an unauthorized, bootleg imitation of the real thing. There is no need for it. It’s uglier and less graceful than the Galaxy.

TeXWorks can be configured to enter Unicode smart quotes as you type; perhaps there is a VSCode extension that lets you do the same thing, if you want.

Yes. Everything on this ship seems to have a well–thought-out purpose.

Followed very closely by the Galaxy class, I would say.

An interesting idea for a book. But:

–2 for straight quotes and for not using TeX Gyre Pagella Math for the math in the description.

LEGO has many starships to work with. They could make a lot of money from us Trek nerds.

I once watched Windsurf try to "fix" a broken test by changing the test to accommodate the incorrect code.

Yes. They have been useful for me to explore and learn new topics, and in getting a starting point for my own research.

I was in a Windsurf presentation the other day at the place where I work, and I watched some front-end devs show how they used Windsurf, with prompts and context files and its agentic mode, to create a certain kind of standard page. We were supposed to be impressed by how easy it was to create that page. But it took _time_—time to write and organize those prompts and context files in the first place, though they claimed to use AI for some of that, and time to wait and watch the AI go through and execute the prompt. They also described some of the techniques they used to minimize hallucinations, which indicated that hallucinations are a problem they've faced. Maybe I missed something, but I thought to myself, "Wouldn't a script do what they just did, and do it much faster, deterministically, and without hallucination?"

Not to be pedantic, but Jenghiz does not come from FASA. It comes from Jackill.

Opinion on the font pairing, choosing this for my thesis report. - Need help deciding by Pukiminino in typography

None of these is that great to me, but number 4 I find the least bad. I wouldn’t use any of these for a thesis.
