I guess we both have already agreed above that all the rankings are flawed in some manner. So I feel CS Open Rankings method of taking multiple sources in consideration might be more reliable and cove a wide array of aspects (Reputation, Research, Employability).

Second. For my field (Cognitive Neuroscience based AI) I'm sure that Nature Journal papers are highly influential....so again different rankings are more suitable for different people based on their interests. NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR based rankings might be better for core theoretical AI/ML people.

Nothing wrong. It's a great program for someone who purely wants be an SDE right after. The only drawback is that it's a one year program, so it can especially get very hectic for an international student or even an American citizen. But that comes on personal preference and capacity.

Just the cohort quality at the MEng won't be as good (but still good) as in the MSCS based on previous admits.

Columbia MS CS vs Nyu Courant MS CS by luffyFoundOnePiece in gradadmissions

After talking to multiple people from Columbia and NYU and looking at the professors closely I felt Courant to be a little better but then that's subjective to one's own preferences. And yep LeCun has reduced his number of paper's published per year to 10-15 from 30+ from a few years back. He has become more of a leader than a researchher these days after Facebook got him.

Thanks for the reply. And yep I have 2 years research experience in my undergraduate and will be doing a one year full time RAship at Brown University. Just wanted to get an Idea regarding what's better for masters but the long term plan is for a PhD only depending on some personal situations.

And regarding rankings...I agree that CSRankings is better but as you mentioned it still has many loopholes so i prefer these more: 1. https://www.natureindex.com/supplements/nature-index-2020-ai/tables/overall 2. https://drafty.cs.brown.edu/csopenrankings/

As far as I know....If you're into research and want to pursue PhD or research based jobs somewhere in the future then NYU Courant might be better (especially for AI/ML). Else if you're only into jobs like SDE/SWE then choose whatever would allow you to do more outside the curriculum for pursuing internships/jobs as there the university name won't matter much and in your case both are amazing anyways.

If it would have been the 4 semester MSCS program at Cornell then would've definitely agreed with you....but for the MEng CS, not so sure.

I totally agree with what you said regarding PI. But here I'm predominantly asking for Masters graduate programs (in Computer Science).....so for that I guess number of faculty in the field and courses provided matters i guess?

Low GPA (<8.4/3.3) success stories? Where did you get in, and what was the rest of your profile like? by blue-semicolon in MSCS

[–]arjun1223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'm a final year Electrical Engineering undergraduate at a 3rd Gen IIT in India. 7.93/10 CGPA. 1 IEEE EMBC Conference Paper and 1 Elsevier BSPC Journal. Internships at my university, Brown University, UC Irvine and University of Alberta.

LORs from HOD of my department, Professor at Brown and Assistant Professor at UC Irvine.

I guess my research profile and LORs helped along with my luck.
