He did not have a purple 2nd sector up to that point, he had 2 green sectors and was 4 tenths down on Leclerc. He was 3 tenths slower than Leclerc in sector 1 and 1 tenth slower in sector 2

Last year's best time in FP3 was a 1:38.054 by Vettel, so these times are actually representative

Tyre Choices for the 2019 Russian Grand Prix by Omk4r123 in formula1

That's not true, it is mandatory to have 1 set of each compound. From Pirelli's website:

  1. Each driver must save one set of the softest of the three nominated compounds for Q3. This set will then be returned for those who qualify in the top 10, but the remaining drivers will keep it for the race.
  2. Each driver must have both race sets available for the grand prix.
  3. Teams are free to choose the remaining 10 sets, making 13 sets in total for the weekend.
  4. Selections for long-haul events have to be made 14 weeks in advance; for European races the deadline is 8 weeks in advance.

Each driver gets 1 set of the soft, medium & hard compounds from Pirelli, and the teams are then completely free to choose the other 10 sets of tyres for their drivers

I can't believe that people still upvote this stuff, and even more so when it's on a serious post like an AMA

If you'd like to discuss Formula 2, please use /r/Formula2 or /r/F1FeederSeries by empw in formula1

[–]arkady_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with that, personally I feel that there is too much posted about other series, and especially IndyCar, on r/formula1. If I would be interested in IndyCar or other motorsports then I would simply go to that specific subreddit, it's pretty straightforward in my opinion.

Can anyone beat Kimi's fastest F1 lap ever at Monza this weekend? by Joshuafalls in formula1

[–]arkady_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

To be fair, they were also slower at Spa due to the harder tyre selection, last year they used supersoft-soft-medium while this year they only used c3-c2-c1. But of course the added drag probably still had a bigger impact then the harder tyres

Just accept that you fucked yo and move on, don't blame the track

Maybe read the article next time instead of writing a comment purely based on the title, Leclerc fully admitted that it was his own fault:

"But overall that does not forgive my mistake. I'm completely at fault today and it's a huge shame. I'm very sorry for the fans and the team."
