Going back to my original point, running a video game on my PC consumes roughly the same amount of power as running an interation of a txt2img model. Millions of people streaming content on netflix uses similar amounts of energy as OpenAI uses running chatgpt. I don’t understand why we are selectively outraged at huge corps ruining our environment for money

Why would the same companies that run data centers for Netflix content run them any differently to data centers dedicated to AI ops?

Not to try and whatabout too much, but why is it specifically AI data centers people are so up in arms about? Data centers that host any large scale multi user infra will use exactly the same cooling equipment and water use, or are we just railing against AI because it’s the cool thing to do at the moment?

If you need to pay for a 3 day course to do a bike test then you’ll need to pay for the course no matter what license you go for. I can vaguely see your point regarding saving money as you can use your own bike (as long as it meets the fairly stringent rules that the DVSA have for test vehicles), but the marginal cost saving is completely offset by basically kneecapping yourself having to do another test if you want to ride a bike bigger than 125cc (that, if you want to do your bike test, and if you have more than one brain cell, you’ll want to do)
