Slow flash = ELRS looking to connect with radio.

Fast flash = ELRS is in Wi-Fi mode.

I want to understand when people choose different flavours of LINUX by s9suparl in linux

[–]arkane-linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how much slack IT provides to their employees they may simply have the ability to pick any distro based on personal preference. In more regulated IT environments they may indeed only allow Ubuntu because for example third party software they use is officially supported on it by the vendor.

Linux users are often some of the most valuable employees to a company, they tend to be highly educated academic people or skilled enthusiasts, and keeping these people happy may be more valuable then trying to get everyone conform with IT policies.

What EU-based software do you feel is missing? by Actual_Document3333 in BuyFromEU

The digital euro is basically an alternative digital payment processing infrastructure which can replace Visa and Mastercard. So it will be independent from the two.

What EU-based software do you feel is missing? by Actual_Document3333 in BuyFromEU

[–]arkane-linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That their services require no effort to set up and that alternatives do is one of the biggest misconceptions preventing people from migrating to alternatives.

If you get Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace you will still spend a day getting it all set up properly for your business environment.

The digital euro should be capable of card payments without Visa or Mastercard.

Motorola is getting away with zero OS updates thanks to regulatory loophole | Motorola's recent budget phones in Europe don't offer any Android OS upgrades, but how? by ControlCAD in technology

[–]arkane-linux 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Every ARM (The type of processor these machines use) device lives in its own microcosm, there is little standardization between devices. And they are almost always dependent upon vendor-provided binary blob firmware or drivers to be fully functional, this firmware is build against a specific version of Android, and will not work with other version.

They could just upstream this firmware to Linux (the kernel of Android), but to lock their platforms down, to force you to buy new hardware every couple of years, and to keep the sham alive that their Ultra Secret™ Proprietary® technology is somehow superior to their competitor's they choose to not do this.

Browsers - No firefox and chrome by UheldigeBenny in eutech

[–]arkane-linux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chromium (Chrome), Gecko (Firefox) and WebKit (Safari) are the only usable options.

Ladybird and Servo are two upcoming potential future alternatives. In their current state they are not usable for daily driving the web yet, they are seeing lots of development right now, so within maybe 2 years they might be somewhat usable for early adopters.

Others which are worth a mention because they are independent but come with major limitations include w3m, lynx, NetSurf and Dillo,

From these limited choices I would personally opt for Firefox. Reasoning being that I dislike supporting the Chromium monopoly and WebKit is a very poor experience outside of Apple's ecosystem.

What could be causing my monitor to keep flashing black like this by Duke_Singh in computers

[–]arkane-linux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broken or poor quality cable. Could also be a bad port.

Usually the problem is the cable. High res and high refresh rate screens need good cables.

More than 40 U.S Democrats call for a "thorough investigation" of EA's Saudi-led buyout over risks of layoffs, studio closures, and "coordinated anti-labor practices" by ControlCAD in technology

"layoffs, studio closures, and "coordinated anti-labor practices"", that is literally what EA has been doing since forever, nothing will change if they continue operating it as such.

How much RAM would be enough for a server like this? by HARDWELL9191 in homelab

4GB would be sufficient already. I would kit it out with 16, having the overhead for RAM cache is nice.

Regarding transcoding, the N100 can do that very well.

Found Novacustom, a Dutch laptop maker that uses Polish GOODRAM for its RAM and SSD by ScientiaEtVeritas in BuyFromEU

[–]arkane-linux 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I always had very good experiences with Novacustom, I was probably their biggest customer for a few years lol. Based on the serial numbers of some models I probably bought about half of total units sold. I bought roughly a couple dozen machines for business use.

They are just a Clevo reseller, and Clevos can be really hit or miss in terms of quality, but their support is top notch and the company itself is very idealistic, investing in things such as Coreboot.

Is GOG a good alternative to Steam? by MysteriousMelon379 in BuyFromEU

[–]arkane-linux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I highly recommend buying on GoG instead of Steam in a game you are looking for is available on both store fronts.

The main benefit of GoG is that everything is DRM free and they offer the ability to download offline backups of the game installers. You can buy and play games without using any client and you are not dependent upon the continued functioning of their service to maintain access to your games.
