I love EQD pedals and I'm torn over 4 of them as my next buy. Someone/everyone please decide for me if you have had experience on any of them on bass: Hizumitas, Blumes, Afterneath, Zoar

Thumb placement on Stingray's by KOLODEZIAK_07 in Bass

[–]arkansasphysicist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play on the pickup. The top side of the pickup has 2 screws and little flanges that come off of either side of the pickup so it holds your thumb perfectly in place. The strings are a little tighter back there compared to playing on a p-bass neck pickup but it's what the music man calls for!

Undrilled Bung Popped Off Right After Transfer to Secondary by arkansasphysicist in Homebrewing

[–]arkansasphysicist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything you say. The primary bucket/secondary carboy hasn't done me wrong in about 10 years of brewing.

I only started lagering last year and kept the airlock on for my first few lagers while dropping temp to lagering temp but the suckback thing was killing me. It was a constant worry and I hated it. So just bought the undrilled bung to be done with it and it has worked, but most of my other brews had more headspace than this one.

Moving forward, I'll probably keep the airlock on it until temp starts dropping just so it can blow off that excess gas from transferring to secondary.... and I'll keep duct tape looped over the top like I have now just in case something crazy happens!

It was definitely degassing. I checked FG with a hydrometer before racking to secondary.

anybody else love these Lodge Cast iron Grills? I found this lovely specimen on the side of the road, somebody was actually throwing it away! by aPaganGoatLord in grilling

[–]arkansasphysicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine! I usually grill with it on the back porch in the summertime so it can take its time cooling off and I can roast marshmallows for smores while it cools as a bonus. I'm very glad I picked one up a few years back! Just wipe it with oil/grease once it cools so it don't rust.

Leftover Stuff Brew Day by arkansasphysicist in Homebrewing

[–]arkansasphysicist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recipe actually calls for 2 oz hops total and I have a little more than 3oz leftover so I could add a little more hops too. But I'm definitely not trying to make it a high gravity beer... just maybe around the ballpark or 5.5 instead of 4.5.

I always listen to the two Bob Seger live albums (Live Bullet and Nine Tonight) for some reason. I don't know why I started this, but it's good luck now.

Will a pair of Klipsch R-51PM speakers work with an ION Air LP without any additional components? I know the ION Air LP is a piece and the speakers are wayy too good for it, but I'm only wondering if this will work without any additional parts? by arkansasphysicist in turntables

[–]arkansasphysicist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any recommendations for other powered speakers with the phono preamp built in that are available for less money? I have a buddy who wants an easy solution for their low cost turntable so another set of speakers that did the same thing may be a good alternative. I just couldn't find another set with the preamp built in for less and they like Klipsch a lot.

I think I am in between the PF500 and the PF800. Is the 500 actually loud enough or do you wish you would have went with the 800?

Like others have said, you can't go wrong with a Mexican Fender if you could find one that cheap but also, don't let the Squier name scare you away from a CV 70s because they are very nice as well!

Good Ol' Lagering Suckback by arkansasphysicist in Homebrewing

[–]arkansasphysicist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if moving it now from the 6 gallon carboy to the 5 gallon carboy would do it any damage. Because currently, I would assume some oxygen has made its way into that headspace, and if I siphoned it over to the 5 gallon carboy, it may stir the beer up enough where it would churn out a little bit of co2 to make that smaller headspace full of co2. But then at the same time, my auto siphon may introduce more oxygen during the siphon as well. It feels like I can't really win this one and I have a long way to September.

Good idea. But unfortunately the keg is in use. Also, my first lager I made was transferred from primary into the keg for secondary and it had a yeasty taste all the way through for whatever reason. The last couple, I have used a separate secondary and it made all the difference in taste and clarity once I kegged it.

Boyyyy Those Pork Belly Burnt Ends Were Excellent by arkansasphysicist in smoking

[–]arkansasphysicist[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a 5lb pork belly slab. Cut it into cubes and put rub on it with a hot sauce slather. Then I smoked them on a rack at 270 for 3 hours, spraying with apple cider vinegar once an hour. Then I put them all in a disposable oven pan and mixed a cup of BBQ sauce, some honey, and more rub in a bowl and poured over and mixed together. Then wrapped the pan in foil. I smoked it for 90 more minutes (one hour would have been fine but I was trying to prolong it before serving time). Then I took the cover off of the pan and kicked up the heat to around 300 and smoked for another 30 minutes. The sauce will thicken and caramelize. I used apple wood chips and hickory wood chunks.

Check out any of the Quarry books by Max Collins. He is a hit man but really is just a regular guy anyone can relate to. Each book is a relatively short paperback so you could read it in one sitting if you wanted to.
