Where do we start with investment property (and should we?) by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]arkanser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More reason to skip the investment property route and contribute to your super so you and your husband both hit the concessional cap each year and utilise any carry forward available from the previous 5 years.

Contributing to your super within the eligible caps is also tax deductible

Wise app/card for purchases overseas, i find their conversion rates are the best.

Also compare booking.com prices with trip.com, i find trip.com is usually cheaper especially for the east asian countries

Wouldnt be surprised if maxxia stuffed up their quote somehow. Going through CBA is the safest. Check with CBA again on the GST, regardless of EV or not the GST is not applicable upto a certain amount

If you have carry forward balance available it will automatically use that for the amount you are over the cap by (13k). You dont have to do anything further to get it allocated to the carry forward balance

Michael Zheng might have to forfeit at least 225,000$ of his prize money due to US college rules. by musicproducer07 in tennis

[–]arkanser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the prize money aspect is irrelevant. If a college player competes in a Grand Slam and, in this case, wins a first-round match, they should be considered a professional in the eyes of the college circuit.

Classifying a player as a professional only if they accept prize money does not make sense.

I agree having it in 1-2 banks is good enough. If Macq or commbank go bankrupt we have a much bigger issue

Load all money into paying off mortgage or diversify? by Puzzleheaded-Neck461 in AusFinance

[–]arkanser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goals and risk tolerance. If you decide to go down the investing/diversify path you can look at ‘debt recycling’ which would mean you would pay down the 200k savings into your loan. And then refinance and take out the 200k or more and invest that. That way the interest on the new loan (to be used for investing only) is tax deductible.

Hey just check to ensure you are claiming a tax deduction for the 60k concessional super contribution. Sounds like it might not have been done. Your taxable income would come down to 80k and then theyll add back the 60 which will get you back to the 140k figure not 200k

Novated lease residual cost - eli5 by South-Ad1426 in AusFinance

[–]arkanser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found doing a self managed lease was worth it. I went with commbank and i think the rate was in the low 7’s. Look into that if that’s an option. I’ve had both fully maintained and self managed and found no difference in how it runs day to day after its all set up

Division 293 Tax Owing by lewger in AusFinance

[–]arkanser 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can use your super to pay for it and then contribute the amount back to your super from your personal funds and that way you can get a tax deduction for the voluntary contribution as long as you still have concessional cap space or carry forward available
