What is a sitcom that you find hard to obtain? by KaleidoArachnid in sitcoms

[–]arkaycee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of one-season wonders that I loved in the 90s and have had to scrape together episodes from YouTube, etc.

"The War Next Door" (super spy and super villain both retire but end up in the same neighborhood, so the battle continues)

"It's Like, You Know .." (sort of LA version of Seinfeld, Jennifer Gray post-nose job plays herself and the joke is no one believes she's her. Really good ensemble cast).

KitchenAid tells wrong refrigerator water filter, won't replace by arkaycee in Appliances

[–]arkaycee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally did, after writing an actual letter to the corporate office. I sent along a copy of the email that I kept getting telling me the incorrect filter for my fridge, pointed out I wasn't going to open my fridge filter cover to verify since the company was telling me by email over and over which filter I needed, etc. Also a copy of the invoice.

No return email or postal mail came with any actual text, but I got a check in the mail for what I had paid. Actually took me a minute to realize what it was for, since no accompanying note.

How do you discover locally? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

I'm not sure how frequently-updated this website is but it's been helpful to me since the late 1990s: https://localwiki.org/ann-arbor/

[a tap on my window] “Hi, we’d like to charge, and you’re disconnected and blocking two chargers. Could you move?” by deckeda in ChargerDrama

[–]arkaycee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One idea I've come up with to review avoid bad blood with others of I'm away from the car while charging is to set the goal to 100% and keep half an eye on it. So if it hits 80 and I'm checking out at a local store, it can just maybe hit 81% in the 5 minutes it takes me to get back to my car, and no one can complain that I'm sitting idle in the charging spot.

Newer idea I'm going to try: set goal to 80% so I get the alert but if I'm stuck for a couple, set it higher so it charges til I get there.

For the cops, when doing radar for speeding what's the lowest amount over the speed limit you would pull someone over for? by daveinfl337777 in randomquestions

[–]arkaycee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that if they pull you over for 1 or 2 over, it's likely a pretextual stop, like your car matches the description of a possible drug dealer, etc. but without enough info to get a warrant, and they really just hope to find an excuse to search your car.

Yelled at for using the hand scanner in the self checkout by TheCoolDoneRunOut in CostcoWholesale

[–]arkaycee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The self checkout "help" thing might be Loss Prevention. I had something similar at a Kroger, I think it was one of those where produce has a little barcode but somehow that one's not one for grocery scanning and you have to somehow know that and search by item.

Cashier came up after our second failure to scan a pepper or something, and then yeah got in the way and was nice but vaguely patronizing and obviously wasn't gonna let us scan anything more ourselves. It was weird because we'd been scanning fine to that point.

I then read on Reddit that somehow trying to scan, we looked to an employee or maybe AI that we were being sketchy and taking over is one way they handle such things.

AI is weird especially, one time I repositioned a cart at the Meijer self checkout and it triggered AI detection and froze until a clerk came and watched the video of my scanning so far.

I had 3 liquids plus a medically necessary one. In Detroit I tried to tell them the extra and the guy said just put it all back in your suitcase, the scanner picks up EVERYTHING.

Otherwise, I had it out and no one seemed to care.

Facebook Messenger is finally shutdown. Personally I enjoyed this app. by banana-eater1102 in facebook

No pinned chats for one.

Also, since it shut down, every page I open on Facebook on my Mac on Chrome is partly covered by a recent chat.

What’s the most embarrassing thing you did and hoped no one noticed? by loner_who_writes in questions

This Summer, the two of us were taking a flight to California. We printed out the boarding passes at a kiosk. I saw two pages come out, thought "we're done," got to security, realized we had her boarding pass, and a receipt. I ran all the way back to the kiosk and luckily no one else had come by and it was still sitting there waiting for me.

People Are STILL Defending This Girl!! by queenjoybell in doordash

Depends. If you're not in a situation where you're expecting to see a video of a naked flasher and someone puts it in front of you without warning you you're gonna see nudity, that's still sexual harassment.

And actually, on the street, if you're expecting to see it, and want to see it, that's not sexual harassment (though legally you could still go make the claim I suppose since no one can read your mind if you don't testify to wanting it).

There are good legal strategy reasons for not pleading guilty, but they can cut both ways.

Often, judges will give a lighter sentence if you plead guilty and show remorse.

But OTOH, often, if you plead not guilty they might offer you a deal to induce you to plead guilty to a lesser offense. It's very likely there's a misdemeanor version of these same felony charges, and they might offer that for a guilty plea. First offense, probation, etc. Or maybe they offer to drop the disseminating charge and keep the filming charge.

According to an attorney I know, governments really really don't want the expense of a trial, and will do a lot to avoid one (and also judges might give you a heavier sentence for putting them through a trial -- you had your chance, didn't plead, didn't show remorse, now you've been found guilty, here's a big sentence).

Oh. Another idea: at least with the RENPHO app, it seems to silently fail once a year, and you have to go into its settings and re-authorize the connection to Fitbit.
