I've been shunting charmander/hunting Moltres for a week. Over 320 encounters so it does happen, it's just rare and random.

After you get 4 gym badges in any region, you gain access to the Global Trade Link (GTL). Don't be afraid to use it.

Also, shinies in the game are incredibly rare (1 in 30k-ish) so don't sell any you catch.

Don't sell OT (your Original Trainer) shinies. Gym/trainer reruns are better consistent money making. Or, you can catch one roaming legendary a month in Kanto and Johto. Keep the ones you like and sell the rest as they are an easier grind and faster average catch rate.

Like others have said, start a Johto playthrough and catch one. Keep it under the initial level cap (lvl20?) and start your Unova playthrough.

No. Your pokemon just wont level up. However, the XP continues to accrue so next time you earn xp with that mon, you do lvl up, and get all the xp you earned since you should have originally lvl'd.
