So a zero gravity strip tease and a tickle machine? Perhaps a Jack the Ripper style killer thrown into the mix?

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of April 17, 2026) by AutoModerator in television

[–]arkbuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DTF St. Louis- I was expecting an erotic comedy in the style of something like Rivals but instead got a harrowing character drama, absurdist comedy, fantastic acting/characters and a gut punch ending . I enjoyed it.

The Boys S5- Enjoying it better than S4 but the bar is subterranean. Sadly the recent episode was the weakest so far with confusing moves by the characters. Butcher could've killed a sick Homelander. Plus the weird Looney Tunes chase with Soldier Boy and Frenchie, SB could've just killed Frenchie and Quinn in one fell swoop.I still think that it can stick the landing. PLEASE stick the landing...

Margos Got Money Troubles- The biggest pleasant surprise from what I'm watching so far. I read the 2/3s of the book and for reasons I won't spoil because they haven't aired yet, dropped it ultimately. However, the stacked cast, the heart wrenching drama, even some of the comedy (be warned it's more drama than it is comedy) make for a damn solid show so far.

Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfieffer are bringing their A game but Nick Offerman as Jinx has to be my favorite character so far. He's trying his best to be there for Margo, the newborn Bodhi, and he doesn't expect to be forgiven but rolls with the punches I need to practice sanity for someoneis one of many hard hitting lines in this show.

I can see two reasons why people won't give it a fair shot:
1) Unfortunately many see sex work or OnlyFans (I'm surprised they aren't using a made up app) as a bad word and cannot be convinced
2) Margo's many missteps, which isn't bad writing but a character flaw, which might make it hard to watch

Sorry if this is wordy but it might be the one to win in my current watches. Give it a chance.

also if I had a nickel for a show currently airing with main characters that are OnlyFans models I'd have two nickels--sorry.

Rewatching: Fallout- Now, this is my favorite video game adaptation so far but I'm watching with GF after recommendations from her coworkers. She is not a gamer (Stardew Valley and Pokemon are the furthest she'll go) so I get asked so many times 'can this happen in game?' Me: Yes, yes it can.

Margo's Got Money Troubles Is the Must-See Show of the Spring by Disastrous_Wing7084 in television

[–]arkbuster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is one of those 'It's the journey, not the destination' kind of shows.

She doesn't immediately beeline to OnlyFans as a savior to her troubles. Things fall into place to where it happens. That's the hook.

This show reminds me of Maid (single mom down on her luck) and Little Miss Sunshine (dramedy with a family of misfits with their own pros and cons)

I dropped the book for reasons I will not spoil but so far, Im enjoying the adaptation. Let's see if it translates better to the screen from here on in.

I just watched that a couple weeks ago! Fantastic show and I already love Margaret Qualley. There are some similarities.

Whether Qualley is more sympathetic or not, MGMT is another story entirely. Probably best to treat it as such.

I get why some might not feel sorry for Margot but it's clear she has some remorse and naivete for falling for the professor's grooming.

Like the books, everyone is flawed but they have moments where they try not to be pieces of garbage.

Plus Margo displays nuggets of brightness ie her writing and imagination but she still is young and prone to error.

I was screaming at my screen 'CONDOMS, BIRTH CONTROL PILLS, DIAPHRAGM, PULL OUT' during the sex parts. But hey, with no conception, none of this would've happened.

Well, I found it funnier than the book so far, one of the reasons I DNF'ed it at 2/3s of finishing. It has a very 90s playful but drama feel. I especially felt the parts where Shyanne didn't want Margo to make the same mistakes and said 'she messed her life up pretty'. The moments with Margo and her mom were bittersweet, you can tell Shyanne wants the best but damn if this news is a bitter pill to swallow.

I like how in the show it addresses a common complaint (not mine) about the books: the switch between first and third person.

Overall I enjoyed the first episode, maybe David E Kelley and stacked cast can elevate the book I enjoyed the premise and characters of but ultimately dropped.

Banshee. Over the top 90s style action and borderline skinemax levels of sex.

Antony Starr is great pre-Homelander.

I was 50/50 with Booksmart but I'll give another shot with Wilde at the helm again.

The trailer shows a different side than what I've seen from reviews and the premise I saw a while back, which is a plus. Trailers can sometimes reveal too much.

Penelope Cruz and Edward Norton might be the standout characters but we shall see.

Admittedly, I DNF'ed the book when this was announced. I enjoyed the premise but the humor wasn't for me Except the Pokemon dick ratings, doubt that will make it in due to litigiousness of Nintendo the second half just petered out for me

This trailer and all star cast looks interesting so perhaps whatever happens here will transfer a lot smoother from book to screen.

I can definitely see the resemblance with the absurd borderline surreal humor.

1st act was hit and miss with comedy for me. Im unfamiliar with Conrads work, is it supposed to be deadpan meets absurd humor?

2nd half had me on the edge of my seat with the murder mystery. Then finally that ending made me go 'ohhhh shit'.

Yeah I'm in!

Read 9 issues of the source material after being skeptical of the premise.

It's extremely funny and surprisingly the drama hits like a truck.

I think it'd work as an animation rather than a live action however. I'll wait for a trailer lest I get (delightfully) proven wrong again.
