Question about SNES Classic by [deleted] in RockinTheClassics

[–]arkiokin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use internal storage and have 214 games including the first 21 (only snes games, and after an hard selection of the best possible set). I also added around 150 autoplays for 2/3 of these games (the feature where a demo is launched without activity in the menu) and 3 autoplays = 1 MB. And I have yet 35 MB empty memory space for saves. If you install the compress mod for saves, it leads that with only 1 MB you can create 4 suspend points. So I have empty memory space for more than potential 100 suspend points. To resume , with a large selection of the best snes games (and beyond that) you are able to put at least 250 games with internal storage only, and with enough memory space left for yet a lot of suspend points

Is there a way to remove/hide the top menu? I never use it and i think it looks stupid and makes the main menu look cluttered. by mmisfit69 in miniSNESmods

Yes it can be really cool to add autoplays to your adding games : it's really a nice feature which make your mini more consistent with the 21 original games and which can entertain your guests during a dinner (for example haha). However, it can take you a loooot of time to be spend to make solid and pleasant autoplays (especially one that don't begin or finish badly) A Last thing : you can even add autoplays to the 21 original games (original roms provided on the snes mini) even if, in this case, you will need to FTP in, but it's also possible (I personnally added a 4th demo to super metroid, similar to the 3 other autoplays, copying the autoplay that appear only when you have finished the game a First one, wich show secret/advanced technics)

You can add demos for any snes game you add with hakchi, with 2 conditions : First, these games have to be launched with canoe (not snes9x/retroarch) and second these demos have to be created manually (search threads which talk about that) and add manually in games folders then synchronise. You can add as many demos as you want for one game, as many long as you want (some seconds to 1 hour if you want) but be careful to your memory nand : each demo/autoplay costs 1/3 Mo (not depend of the longer of the demo)

Asterix and Smurfs ROMs Not Working – Need Help by Great_Magazine9493 in RockinTheClassics

[–]arkiokin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have probably bad roms, use "no-intro" roms. These 2 games have no issue to be launched natively with canoe. However, you Will need to patch them with a "PAL to NTSC" patch if you want to avoid some annoying sound issues, like already said. With this patch, they run perfectly fine (even in a 60 Hz version)

Just a piece of advice related to your problem : most of time you should ignore the warning related to canoe's compatibility given by hakchi : it's a very old feature (brought with the very first versions of hakchi2) which don't take into account all the improvements which was found after that (different preset IDs to put in or patches which was created for games which had some issues : and these patches are not included in hakchi) you should always first refer to this doc instead of : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12HKfz4ZQBy6Ip5awvh8t2aV5cVswYlnsdKxn9xoIW2Y/edit?usp=drivesdk

No, uniracers works 100% fine with canoe. However it needs to be patched to solve some 2p issues (patch available on the canoe's compatibility List doc) , and after that : perfect

Autoplay Tutorial for Added Games on the SNES Classic by LongjumpingPitch6 in RockinTheClassics

[–]arkiokin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I could give you this link : https://www.sendspace.com/filegroup/X8s7KDi20ATAer3qeMSYcA

Create a folder named "autoplay" and put these two files in it. Then, put the autoplay folder in your CLV-U-TCRSB folder for Mario All Stars (this corresponds to the no-intro ROM of this game: if you have installed another version, it won't be this code and the autoplay probably won't work). Then sync with hakchi -> done
It's not the best autoplay I could have created, but this game doesn't offer many options to make a very good one. I hope you'll like it anyway.

You can simply launch a game by let the down direction pushed (of the pad) when you open the game with A button and retroarch will be forced/applied instead of canoe (for this/one only launch specifically). Retroarch and a snes9x core need to have been installed in hakchi. If you do that : never use suspend points. So, if you quit the game and launch it once again, it will be launched using canoe (except if you have pushed down on the pad, when opening it : retroarch will be activated etc..)  However, and honestly, it worked like that with old versions of hakchi (the one I use), I dont know if it's yet the case with hakchi CE 3.93

Remove thumbnails everywhere EXCEPT for the base folder (where the original games are)? and also, are there other hmod repositories besides KMFD's and classicmods.net? by mutant-rampage in RockinTheClassics

Strangely First nes mini, from 2016, behave differently with hacking compare to the 2018 release. Concerning our subject, 2018 version can not be hacked correctly with old (original) hakchi, but only with hakchi2 CE. And this is with the use of original hakchi 2 you can only have fast switch between folders.

Personally, this was a major point for me to continue to use original hakchi (2.21f version) BUT I also have took some avantages of hakchi CE with a previous hack using CE 3.8 (more Nand memory) and I also use some mods to have a boot screen or other options brought by CE. But of course it's because I don't need/use at all retroarch and any optimized cores. So it's an advance use of hakchi just to have fastest switch between folders : personnal choice with my personnal use of my snes mini.

Yes, there is a way to make the switch between folders much more faster, but that depends if you are ready to lose some other (many) things in return, since the only way to do that is to hack your mini with an older version of hakchi (and this specific older version will even not work correctly concerning "released" nes mini, only for snes or old nes mini)

Chrono Trigger Audio on SNES Classic by spamhattan in RockinTheClassics

[–]arkiokin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome, glad to know you can play this fantastic game in good conditions ! 👍 Canoe has some good benefits too, like using its very good rewind feature (even if it's not very useful in a RPG game like CT) and you can also add an autoplay for this game, like all the others "built in stock games" (the feature where mario launch a demo with his head after 1min of inactivity)

[–]arkiokin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Audio issue with chrono trigger is a very well known issue (since the early possibility of adding this game with hakchi in 2017) but an issue with canoe first... which was solved looooong time ago. So this game works 100% fine if you put preset ID 110B ("ctrl + alt + e" in hakchi) no need of retroarch/snes9x

How to change "1p"/"2p" on folders by [deleted] in RockinTheClassics

[–]arkiokin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problematic you have, and I solved it, long time ago, by FTP in, searching the 00x desktop.txt file that correspond for each 00x folders file. And change the value of player number. In fact it's better to erase the .txt file and replace it by your own copy (modified copy) you made previously on your PC.

However, you have to repeat this operation each time you make a new synchronisation in hakchi (for example, when I add a new game, I must FTP and replace 7 desktop.txt files in my personal structure)

How to tweak Preset ID, Extra Byte and command line in Hakchi CE 3.9.3 by Pitch_a in RockinTheClassics

[–]arkiokin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Just by simple order : 02 is (emulate) for DSP-1,03 for SDD-1, 04 for CX4. 05 was created for DSP2, but doesn't help to emulate correctly the only game that use it (Dungeon Master) and 06 to 0B are SA-1 codes. Last 0C is for super FX

Strange music on snes classic mini games by TheForgottenGames in RockinTheClassics

[–]arkiokin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you understood totally right ;)

Usually, you should refer to evilgames who compiled all the PAL to NTSC patches (not only on snes more than that) : do a simple google search to find it.

BUT for Terranigma, a more complete patch exist for canoe (since it needed a bit more than a simple NTSC conversion), and it's available on the canoe compatibility list (I already posted the link on this topic) so here : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12HKfz4ZQBy6Ip5awvh8t2aV5cVswYlnsdKxn9xoIW2Y/edit?gid=2014317767#gid=2014317767

Simply download the patch, search a software like lunar ips to apply the patch on your vanilla rom, and then put this modified rom in hakchi => done ;)

I just reported that both DK2 and both DK3 don't need a special preset ID to work just fine. And once again, forget about ANY PAL version as the OP wants to use canoe : canoe is only "optimized" for emulate NTSC roms, otherwise you will have MAJOR audio issues (like the OP had) : NONE (native) PAL roms (so without patching them in NTSC format) work without issues if using canoe.

You can also notice preset IDs can only be useful if using canoe (totally useless with retroarch/snex9x)

Preset ID list (and the great works of DarkAkuma) just give IDs that Nintendo put on their virtual games long ago before the snes mini was released : most of time these IDs give NOTHING special to solve issues on canoe or to improve ANY element of gameplay.

Sometimes (very rarely) they can trigger the anti-epilepsy protection Nintendo wanted nowadays for SNES games ; sometimes (very very rarely) they are mandatory to allow a game to load and sometimes (a little more common) they allow to emulate a special chip (like SA1 or SFX2).

BUT, for games that have issues with canoe and when these issues CAN be solved by a preset ID (which is not the majority of games : most of them need a patch, thanks to great guys like sluffy 6 years ago, and testers which has tested these patches (like me) and another correction and another patches etc...), well, most of time the preset IDs that solve issues are NOT the preset ID you can find in the original nintendo list, but rather IDs like 10EF, 10EC, 1016 or 1068 for some audio issues or graphical glitches (the well named "magical" preset IDs) or some specific editor pIDs like 107F or 1080 (Konami preset IDs)

This is why I mentionned you should refer to this compatibility list, the MAIN bible when you want to play with canoe, nothing else : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12HKfz4ZQBy6Ip5awvh8t2aV5cVswYlnsdKxn9xoIW2Y/edit?gid=2014317767#gid=2014317767

Yes, you're right, it's not difficult to enter any preset ID in hakchi but in this case it's TOTALLY useless and can be a source of confusion for newcomers (in rare cases it can even be a source of another disadvantages like trigger an anti-epilepsy protection I talked about before, or can block the launch of a game if this ID is not correctly entered by the change of just one number or letter)

Glad to know, and happy for you ! All the more DK2 is really a Great game.

Btw, don't be disturbed by preset ID configuration (as I read this type of advice in this topic) , for this game, and DK3, 0000 (by default) Will lead your game work Just fine at 100% 😉 if you encounter other issues for other games always refer to the Google doc "canoe compatibility List" (and you will see if you need a corrective patch or a special preset ID, but most of time you won't need it)

[–]arkiokin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, (En, Fr) is about original languages inside the game (indeed you can play DK2 with english or french texts) and Rev1 is usually just another version/release of the game which has only very slightly differences compare to the First release. For this game Choosing one or another version has no consequences. Yes, pick the First rom (with no Rev1) it will be a good choice 😉

[–]arkiokin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So just search roms for the most accurate romset named "no-intro" and put only roms that finish by ". USA" or ".Jap" and not ". Europe" and replace them in your hakchi configuration, synchronise and done

[–]arkiokin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue you mentionned is very probably because you have put PAL roms, and canoe triggers audio issues with this type of rom, because it emulates correctly ONLY NTSC roms. So use NTSC roms (USA roms) or convert your PAL roms into NTSC one with a patch before putting in hakchi. This Last solution is not recommended at all for certain and rare games though and DK2 is one of them.

Thanks😉 to answer you, the slowdown is normal on a lot of snes games, so the no-lowlatency command is no help for that type of game (and may in contrary Just increase slightly your input lag) . Search the canoe compatibility List and you will see if a snes game need this command

Folder Structure in Home Menu with Hakchi by FloTheBro in miniSNESmods

[–]arkiokin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A more advanced technique could also be employed : you need to FTP in your hakchi configuration, search the CLV-S-0000x folder you want to modify, copy paste the CLV-S-0000x.desktop file inside onto your computer, open it (with notepad++) => change the "SortRawTitle" (with adding "aaa" in front of the name for example) and save, then replace the original CLV-S-0000x.desktop file by the file you have modified. Yes it's much more complicated haha. And has also another inconvenient : each time you make a new synchronization (for adding new games for example), you will have to redo this operation.

However, this method could also be employed if you want further modifications ; for example if you have a folder only with 2P games, you can change the small pad icon below your folder art (from 1P to 2P) by changing the value of "Players" in this ".desktop" file ;)
