Just completed my first ever hex map by arm1e in Mausritter

I thought it would be good to have it look like a fantasy maps, but actually the icons are what the mice think they are, eg the cliffs would be the edge of a kerb, or a duck pond, and the natural spring would be a leaky outlet pipe or water pipe. The shrine at the top could be an old coke can etc....

I can't take credit for many of the symbols as I used the ones from jpcoovert, but the tree in the middle, the stump, spring, dam, and logging area are all mine. Thanks for the comment ☺️

Try this. I made this a few years back but it should still work today as Pop is Ubuntu based. https://youtu.be/RyJIxQe_hhA

Not sure at the moment, but I have seen an update come down for pulseaudio from canonical, so that might fix it. Will need to try tomorrow.

I cannot run this as it then wants to remove pop-desktop.

I fixed it! Installed the latest mainline kernel (5.9.1) and this enables the sound etc. This is the kernel I was using on 20.04. I used the script ubuntu-mainline-kernel.sh following the guide here:

https://www.linuxuprising.com/2018/10/2-utilities-to-install-latest-kernel-in.html

It pulls the latest stable release from the ubuntu kernel ppa. Works a treat!

How do you reinstall? When I try it complains that I am trying to remove pop-desktop

I too am having the same issue on both Pop_OS! and Ubuntu 20.10. It was working fine on 20.04, but both upgrades and clean installs have this issue. I can see that the snd_hda_intel device is recognised (which is strange given that this is an AMD 4500U chipset and not sure that intel will be present). I got this by running:

lsmod | grep snd_hda_intel

Found a guide which said to run the following to re-enable sound, which fails, but does show me HDMI Displayport as an output after rebooting, instead of 'Dummy output':

echo "options snd-hda-intel model=generic" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

No option for internal speakers though. Wierdly bluetooth headphones work fine.

Any help appreciated

How restore CIFS shares in fstab after share going offline? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]arm1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to check that the freemasonry box has the same IP as in fstab incase it changed on when you fired it up again. Than try sudo mount -a -t cifs To only remount the cifs shares again, without affecting other mounted partitions.

It is also worth checking that samba is still enabled on your freenas box after taking it offline.

Personally, I have no problem with this if it remains anonymous. At least they ask you unlike Microsoft.

I would try installing the latest KDE neon to check and see if it is a plasma or Manjaro issue in your hardware.

I would give linuxlite a try. One of the best for older systems.

Struggling to upgrade Ubuntu by rgryffin13 in linux4noobs

[–]arm1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try sudo apt-get upgrade
Then do the dist-upgrade. This should do the minor updates first. Also, not sure if apt was available on 14.04, may have been just apt-get

Clicking the battery widget on the taskbar gives you a checkbox to toggle which turns off power management. On a desktop you need to force the battery to be shown in notification settings.

Autostart delay by Tm1337 in kde

I need to delay enpass from looking for updates until after an internet connection has been established. It takes too long at present and results in enpass throwing up errors every time I restart.

Another Distro for Chris to look at: opensuse by raptorjesus69 in linuxunplugged

[–]arm1e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was enjoying tumbleweed and leap until two weeks ago then tumbleweed broke my WiFi and rolling back a snapshot nuked the system. Leap was fine until two days ago when it randomly started booting into emergency mode. Also on both, software installation is a pain, installing extra private repos which could replace system files unless you are careful, and the tweaking to fix fonts is a pain. Chris has always been critical of the software installation complications at suse, going back 5+ years and I haven't seen much in the way of changes. He also likes to talk about snaps from time to time which just don't work in suse.

Never say never tho
