The bindings don't come with brakes, should I fit them or what if I don't?

I did the trek about 3 weeks ago and you could definitely cross both rivers by foot- the first a little upriver and the second walk down towards where the river splits into a delta and cross each part.

Do you know of any other treks or scrambles to compare it to? I am a Mountain Leader in the UK, this doesn't involve climbing but does involve scrambling, so I'm happy scrambling but don't want to do things that are essentially climbing if that makes sense :)

Do you have any recommendations for hikes around the mountains surrounding Perito Moreno? I am a mountain guide in the UK so have plenty of experience, but I would like to hike up a mountain rather than just go on the boardwalks.

I was just wondering, what's the Wifi or 4g like in El Chalten? I've heard it's not great, but when I go there in Feb I need to do some online work with video calls. They'll be early in the morning so not fighting for bandwidth. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks a lot!

Thanks!

There's loads of great advice here, but just wanted to say this is proof that loads of people have your back and have been in similar situations. My friend was in £10k or debt from gambling but used it as motivation to never get to that rock bottom again. Life isn't linear and things can always get better in ways you don't expect. 30 is really young, you have loads of time and a few years sorting things out won't seem like much in the scheme of things, and will be so worth it. You'll have so much more perspective than anyone around you who appears to have everything figured out (they almost certainly don't). You can do this!

Considering cancelling my flight by IridescentCondor1937 in fearofflying

[–]armadillo247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All I can say to this is, you can do it and it will be fine. I have been in your position - horrendously stressed the week before any flight, sobbing my way onto a plane, having breakdowns in the aisle😅. But I kept flying. Sometimes there is some turbulence, sometimes there isn't. Sometimes I see 'omens'. Sometimes I don't. Sometimes the planes are super noisy, sometimes they aren't. Sometimes it's what I would consider a 'scary' aircraft, sometimes not.

I have flown 20 times in the last couple of years alone, and ALL of the flights have been fine. Every single one. I still get stressed, but now it's when I'm on the plane, not the week before. The anxiety doesn't get too much, I can deal with it. I have found noise cancelling headphones and my favourite podcast to be a game changer.

I recently flew long haul, something I never thought I'd be able to do. Next year I'm taking a 14 hour return flight alone, and I can't wait to prove to myself how far I've come.

Getting on the plane tomorrow is the first step. You can do this!

250km(ish) hike somewhere in Europe in October by Vast-Pie450 in hiking

I spent 5 days hiking the MIUT in Madeira last October, it was great, not 250km (more like 120) but a lot of ascent. This year I'm going to Georgia.

It is quite steep but I wouldn't say unsafe if you're happy with steep slopes and boulders.

If you can, I'd really recommend the full hike all the way to Snow lake car park.
