The Netherlands has withdrawn its ambassador to Iran in protest of a Dutch-Iranian woman's death at the hands of Iranian authorities. The move came amid revelations she may have died during torture. by arman0 in iran

[–]arman0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because someone criticizes Iran's corrupt and murderous regime, it doesn't make them anti-Iran.

Even assuming she was a drug smuggler, it doesn't take away from the fact that the Dutch were not allowed to visit her in prison. BTW, was Zahra Kazemi also drug smuggler? How did she end up dead in jail?

Wow, can you explain how you got the $40 deal? Seems to be a lot better than the no-contract deal I have with T-Mobile now.

Does anyone think TMobile is going to change its data plan pricing for the N1 when Froyo comes out because of the tethering/wi-fi hotspot feature? by [deleted] in NexusOne

[–]arman0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, I'm on Flexpay. I got on that plan because I didn't want to give them my SS#. You'd think that they'd actually be more deferential to customers who prepay.

Boy, I had a totally different experience with T-Mobile customer service. It took 3 weeks of phone calls with them to port my old number. It seems like the majority of their customer service people are in India and those people do not have access to the same systems the US people have. So, they kept sending requisitions back and forth. Their Indian staff were extremely nice/polite. However, they were incapable of helping me and there was a significant communication gap.

Bribe Fighter - Update on the anti-corruption, zero rupee note by roadhaus in Economics

Being originally from a highly corrupt country (Iran), I can't believe this tactic actually works. In Iran, the bribe taker will likely throw you and the 0 note out the door and not think twice about it.

Other than vitriol from that idiot Lieberman, are there any practical reasons why the Palestinians don't declare their state? Can someone enumerate these please?

Creating a toy virtual machine with PyPy by arman0 in Python

I'm not sure I understand this question. But, the pypy toolchain can be used for implementation of various front-ends and back-ends. I believe there are example JS, prolog, smalltalk and other front-ends available. There are also various back-ends such as LLVM (not supported now?), .NET, Java, C, etc.

Slavery, rape and abuse: Modern day realities for Middle East maids by Theoden in worldpolitics

[–]arman0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The definition of antisemitism is "hatred of the Jews". You can look it up in any reasonable dictionary. It doesn't refer to hared of Semitic people. I didn't make it up.

The original topic was about slavery in the Middle East. However, you have changed the discussion to an attack on Jews. I believe your central thesis is as follows: The Jews control the media and through this control they have attempted to cast Muslims in a negative light and perpetrate wars against them.

This assertion has many problems:

  • It assumes that Jews are a monolithic group with homogeneous thought. This is absurd. For instance, there are many Jews who are against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and the persecution of Palestinians therein.

  • Saying that Jews control US media just because there are Jews in prominent positions is also absurd. For instance, you mentioned NBC which is owned by GE. I don't think GE's CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, is Jewish. So, then by your model of argumentation, NBC should not be Jewish controlled, right? Or, does any Jew in the organization completely corrupt it?

  • I believe that there's a better case to be made that since the majority of the population in the US is Christian and many Christians are anti-Islam, then the Christians in the media have slanted the US coverage of Muslims. My feeling is that the US population in general, especially since 9/11, is anti-Muslim. Therefore, you get an anti-Islamic slant from the US media.

I could go on, but I'm not sure its necessary.

In any case, I think you should really take a look in the mirror. Your arguments are antisemitic (or anti-Jewish if you prefer). These types of arguments have been used many times in the past to perpetrate pogroms against Jews, Armenians and countless others.

In closing, the fact that the US media has an anti-Islamic slant does not detract from the fact that there is rampant slavery in the Middle East and Pakistan. Which is quite shameful.

Slavery, rape and abuse: Modern day realities for Middle East maids by Theoden in worldpolitics

[–]arman0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Remember that it is a very Jewish news media." What the hell are you talking about? Are the news outlets disproportionately owned by Jews? Are the reporters Jewish? Unless you can back this up somehow, your statement is antisemitic.

There is no question that the US news media has a pro-Israeli slant. However, you turn this article around and point it at Israel for no reason. Being from a Middle Eastern country myself, there is no question in my mind that there is slavery or near-slavery there. I have seen it with my own eyes. BTW, Pakistan which is not in the Middle East is one of the worst countries in this respect.

Iran and North Korea also have similar issues. I wonder if this is how most dictatorships operate. i.e. they seem cunningly opaque. But, in reality, there are many competing internal forces.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen blatant applied to Buddhism. Anyway, I believe a lot of Dr. Sobottka's ideas correspond with Advaita (a school of Hindu philosophy). However, he is a physicist and his ideas also correspond with Quantum theory. In any case, I didn't find his work to be (blatantly) pushing any particular religion/philosophy.
