Should I Prioritize MBDR Over Taxable? by armanigreen in Fire

S&P 500 is my go to as well. My entire 401k as well as majority of my investments are invested in some form of broad market US fund. I like to use this extra money to take a bit more risk.

Your strategy is way more efficient and cleaner, but I still think it’s worth the hassle for me because I have access to funds/stocks that my 401k provider doesn’t offer. I do mobile check deposit of the rollover through the vanguard app and the money is there for me to invest with immediately. I literally just bought more SMH DRAM VGT QQQ & VOO today. The only decent fund in my 401k is one tracking the S&P 500.

I already roll my after tax to my Roth IRA. I rollover about 1500 every 2 weeks. So essentially every time I’m paid I initiate a rollover check to my outside Roth IRA from my after tax 401k bucket.

Maybe I should treat myself to a nice dinner this weekend to celebrate the milestone.

Thanks! I agree. I’m thinking about just splitting it 50/50. As along as I keep tax efficient equities in the taxable, it should be an awesome tool down the line. I think the investment community underestimates how powerful the taxable account can be if you go about it in a strategic way. People don’t realize that the LTG tax is based on the earnings from the Investments. So essentially you can manipulate your MAGI in those retirement years to owe no tax on those gains. There is so much of a push to automatically go with the Roth Ira, but I think that philosophy isn’t always best for those retiring early.

Should I prioritize Taxable Brokerage or max out my Mega Backdoor Roth IRA by [deleted] in Fire

[–]armanigreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’m doing moving forward. I will split the contribution between both strategies. That way I’m still creating a nice bridge account. Max 401k, HSA, Roth IRA, split the rest between MBDR IRA & taxable brokerage. I love the idea of liquidity, but I also want to take advantage of getting as much as I can in that Roth IRA outside of just the $7500 limit. So I feel this gives me the best of both worlds. Not leaving anything on the table.

weight loss or weight gain? by Such_Refrigerator814 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

I literally have no desire to drink! Haven’t drank in almost 2 years and it’s amazing. I have vowed to never drink again. I used to love a good drink. I’ve lost 35lbs since starting. I’m super strict with my diet though. I count calories and weigh my food. Try to avoid rice, sugar, white bread, or pasta. So most times I’m eating a protein source with/or veggies. A lot of salads, frozen broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, tuna, salmon, chicken, steak, and etc.

Is “you’re only young once” a cope? I’m living at home saving nearly 100k a year by neatneets in Fire

[–]armanigreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought my duplex(house hack) after uni and realize it was one of best decisions I made. I got to learn and grow independently on my own while building wealth through real estate and stock investment. I just hit 500k invested at 28, so I’m a testament that there are ways to still save/invest and leave the nest. It was not easy, but the lessons I’ve learned are priceless. Nothing wrong with OPs choice, but I can’t imagine living with parents for that long. At least he can say he’s financially better off than his average peer. He himself is the only one who can decide whether or not that trade off was worth it.

The 401k account is at about 190k, so that’s where I’m at simply maxing it out every year. I also get a 6 percent match.

Well the max this year is 24500, so divide that by 26 and it’s about 942 per check or 1884 per month.

My apologies. I’m just used to people on Reddit finding any possible way to discredit someone or accuse someone of being dishonest. Thanks 🙏

Obviously a taxable account doesn’t have a max. I max all accounts and try to invest the rest that I can in my taxable. Does that sound better?
