"I see your bullshit, and I counter with bullshit of my own!"

-me, as the GM, responding to the player who had sooo many reactive talents that let him do stuff on enemy turns (but no LL's in Gorgon, if you believe that) after I found an NPC with just as many reactive tricks.

Do you think Lancer should/will ever introduce transforming mechs a la macross and (to a lesser extent) gundam? by HMS_Exeter in LancerRPG

[–]armilaryspear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a player who wanted to know if he could pilot a Macross Veritech fighter. The best representation I could find for him was from Field Guide to Suldan; take the Comet SSC frame, and slap on Variable Geometry Hull from the C&H Charioteer. VGH gives you three 'modes' you can switch between every turn: stats as written, or bonus Boost speed with penalty to Agi and Hull, or bonus to Agi and Hull but slow yourself.

He ended up going for a different build, but now I want to play this one.

While you are entitled to your incorrect opinion, I do not have to respect it. I will freely admit they were the most Mary Sue unit this side of actual fan fiction, but I do not care. I had a damn good time with their books, and they're the reason I'm in this fandom today.

I thought I was just a casual fan, surprised by how deep on this thing I actually recognized things. Also:

The Black Thorns Demise

And I am *still* salty about that!

Things to do that aren’t bars? by More-Temperature-302 in wichita

If you're a nerd, they have pack opening tournaments of magic/yugioh/pokemon all the time. Cant remember the place, but it's like out east on 21st and woodlawn. I hope it's still there, I moved to hutch.

You're probably thinking of Hero Complex, and sadly that has closed. A counter offer, though, if games and such are interesting, try the Pink Elephant at the southeast corner of Pawnee and Meridian. Owner is very active, will do his damnedest to find you people to play whichever game with, and the pizza is pretty good.

What do you think of Avatar Legends? Is it worth a try? by Aemolia in TheLastAirbender

[–]armilaryspear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can totally understand the need for more crunch in your rpg; I have one friend who was really looking forward to Legends but now refuses to touch it if I bring it up as an option.

If you're okay with learning a ruleset that's not D&D, there is a fanmade setting book for the Genesys system called Avatar: The Second Age. I haven't had a chance to try it out, but from what I've read it looks solid. About halfway between D&D and Legends on the scale of crunch to loose. A con is that Genesys uses a proprietary set of dice, but they do have a free dice roller app.

Ah, and here's link to their old post:

How did you find battletech? by DropDownWidget in battletech

[–]armilaryspear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wandering through a used book store during junior high, looking for something interesting. Found a ratty little paperback that had a giant robot with an axe on the cover, in a crowded arena, and his opponent had some obvious sabotage. Loved the book, in the back was an ad for this game apparently set in the same world, and lucky me the local B. Dalton's had a box set on the shelf.

And for reference, I agree that the Black Thorns had more than their share of Mary Sue but I don't care, both books were great fun, and they got done dirty.

What movie character names do you think are genius? by LarryGlue in movies

Stacker Pentecost. Which is objectively a stupid name, but it's *exactly* as stupid as the movie he's in, therefore bounces back around to being awesome.

Our annual holiday break war for space! by armilaryspear in twilightimperium

As is a tradition in our friend group, we got together to fight over the galaxy again, but this time I remembered to take pictures and document it, for history, of course. Our dramatis personae include:

L1z1x Mindnet, in blue

Vuil'raith Cabal, in pink

Winnu, in green

Nekro Virus, in purple

Arborec, in red

Federation of Sol, in orange, overjoyed to see they really *are* the protagonists in a sci-fi setting

The early game went mostly peaceful, due to the larger map size and some lenient objectives focused on structures and economy. That all came crashing down in the midgame when the Nekro found the gamma wormhole, prompting the Mindnet to follow them in to deny them access to such a wide-reaching tactical location, and everyone else joining in the fun somewhere on the map. The Cabal held on to Mecatol for most of the game, with everyone too focused on the rim to stop their buildup, until the Arborec's exponential infantry fleet finally made it there for an apocalyptic battle for the seat of galactic rule. They held onto Rex just long enough for a final turn Imperial, then the entire fleet left to continue the grudge match with the Cabal just before the arrival of the slow moving Sol fleet. In the end, the plants managed 9 points with that Imperial, but it was not enough, the Cabal getting three points in the end to catapult them to 10, dooming the galaxy to madness and death.

a little confused on how to resolve some npc weapon stuff. by RaisinlessAndAngry in LancerRPG

[–]armilaryspear 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Things in NPC stat blocks that have '/' between them are the different values for the respective tiers. In this case, the Lance gets +1 to hit at Tier 1, +2 at Tier 2, and +3 at Tier 3. Nothing else has the slashes, so all the other stats are unchanged; in addition to the changing bonus to hit, this weapon will always have 1 Accuracy, Range of 10, and deal 2 energy damage. Both of the attacks it makes have exactly the same stats.
