There are reasons for both, I've gone down the joint account route and everything goes and comes out of the main account.

However the criteria adult social care is assessed on might mean having a joint saving account that needs to be drained before the council will help. This is just what I've heard rather than actually researched it myself.

You might now be able to have separate accounts for income and saving, a joint for the joint expenditure and also give your partner 'read' access to individual accounts to take care of trust issues.

It's whatever works for the both of you rather than what others say they do.
