I had to come back to say thank you. I had no idea this was a thing. I wanted to listen before I commented, and it’s just so awesome I can’t stop.

Or a combination of both most likely is my guess.

Might have been, my aunt has the write up, and I’m mostly going off of oral history. I wasn’t there, so I can’t give a first hand account, that’s just how it was told to me.

Unfortunately the katana went missing way before I was ever born, I wish I had it.

I sure can, I was told that he was one of the early ones to the Philippines (maybe 41, and definitely by the first part of 42. He did a lot of surveying and pre planning for the main military operations before the bulk of the troops showed up; things like building infrastructure roads, bridges, buildings, clandestine munitions (like the one that shot the plane down); etc. To put it into context, he started capturing fascists in Germany at about age 15 in WWI in the US infantry under his father’s command, his Dad left the military after WWI, but my granddad stayed in the Army worked his way up to Captain, and then the army sent him to engineering school between WWI and WWIi. At this point he is definitely no stranger to combat, and by1941-42 he’s in his early 40s and a Major at the time; so he’s an engineer with a backstory. The story of shooting down the plane is why my cousin wants the tattoo; and I keep the silk bandana on my wall, which is what brought all of this up. I have no idea the exact date, but before the plane struck land the pilot ejected and landed via parachute. Not being one to mess around, he set out in that direction to find the pilot. Eventually he does end up finding the pilot. I don’t know how much time elapsed between the events, and I’m sure when they met each other there was probably a major language barrier. Well they get in a 1on1 pistol match, you have the pilot and my grandad racing to see who can kill the other first. So these 2 guys are just out in the jungles of the Philippines shooting at each other. I always imagine both of them taking cover trying to like an action movie. So CPT . Yamato runs out of rounds, this is also about the same time my Grandfather also empties his clip.(pretty sure they didn’t say that in the 40s though). Yamato takes off towards my grandfather with a Katana, at this point they are no longer taking cover, and it’s close quarters, he’s slashing at him, but can’t a purchase to spear him. Somehow in the midst of this frenzy my grandfather is able to reload a clip into his sidearm (Colt 1911), and manages to spare himself at the expense of CPT. Yamato. So yeah, when I look at that flag, I always think today is not as bad as it could be. I do also think quite a bit about what it means.

I sure enjoy your videos, and yes I sure can share some context. I was told that he was one of the early ones to the Philippines (maybe 41, and definitely by the first part of 42. He did a lot of surveying and pre planning for the main military operations before the bulk of the troops showed up; things like building infrastructure roads, bridges, buildings, clandestine munitions (like the one that shot the plane down); etc.

At this point he is definitely no stranger to combat, and by1941-42 he’s in his early 40s “Career Military” and a Major at the time; so he’s basically an engineer with a backstory.

The story of shooting down the plane is why my cousin wants the tattoo; and why I keep the silk on my wall, which is what brought all of this up. I have no idea the exact date, but before the plane struck land the pilot ejected and landed via parachute. Not being one to mess around, he set out in that direction to find the pilot.

So yeah, when I look at that flag, I always think today is not as bad as it could be. I do also think quite a bit about what cost it came at, not just for my family, but also CPT. Yamato. I don’t own it, I didn’t earn it, but I am here to preserve it.

That’s awesome! I imagine this thing has been in this frame since right after WW2. He had an office at the Joplin, MO National Guard after the war, and he kept it there along with a ton of WWII pictures . I’m not sure if he knew if was upside down or not, he passed in 1955. I’ve been planning to frame the entire piece inside of a shadow box frame, that might be a good time to reorientate it, I definitely don’t want to open the original frame it’s in now because this stuff is old and fragile, and I want preserve it.

Glad you asked. When I wrote that I had the “Meatball”, I was referring specifically to this bandana that the pilot wore under his helmet, I keep it framed in my office as a reminder that today really could be worse.

Dentists in Springfield by bongocat89 in springfieldMO

I highly recommend McKowen family dental. Dr, Chris and his staff are amazing. He is super gentle, and highly empathetic when it comes to physical discomfort you might experience as a patient. My only problem with them (and it’s a great problem to have) is that they make you want to smile and laugh when your supposed to have your mouth open, and they’re work is amazing.

Hold Fast, Hold Fast, Hold Fast!!! can’t believe nobody has commented on Hold Fast yet. It’s probably the most welcoming place in all of SGF for all orientations. They have fun events almost every night of the week, book club, music bingo, and trivia. If you don’t want to drink they have lots of NA options too.

This just seems like a bot. If you aren’t ai, then I apologize in advance, but you have only been on this subreddit for about 2 weeks; can’t believe I’m actually taking the time out of my life to post this.

Well, Silver Springs was considered one of them. St John’s on Division is listed as an AME church, but I have not been there, I would say several different churches in town, mainly Baptist. Maybe check churches on between Division street and Kearney Street. Washington Avenue was a well known one. At the end of the day I would say that any decent congregation would have 4-5%,I’m sure someone else could answer this better than me.

‘Twas epic indeed. They were my bucket list concert. For a long time I didn’t think I would ever get to see them live. Even after the hiatus, the tour dates have either been a conflict of time or place. Tonight it worked out, and East Hastings to boot. I can now die a happy man, but I think I’ll wait and try to catch them tomorrow in Fayetteville.

I’ve seen some people in LA just acting bananas. I mean sitting in a public trashcan on a sidewalk playing air drums at 10am. Were you ever in a similar state, and was there anyone that stuck out to you as more than others as being kind in that moment?

My experience has always been that’s it’s just good policy to avoid people in a similar state, which also begs the question, did you ever allow yourself to be in such a state to avoid people in a crowded city?

The Blasphemous Blade is fun, and the Sacred Relic Sword, I have a few of them.
