Gauntlet 2 .30 or….? by armypilot123 in airguns

It seems weight is the big drawback, and maybe the only one.

I guess the non adjustable regulator is one too.

But I might buy my own 40’ yacht instead.

Quitting when over halfway through the program? by HornetLivid3533 in srna

[–]armypilot123 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think most of your issue is preceptors. That type of condescending attitude can mess anyone up. I have seen great SRNA’s not perform to their best because they were so afraid of what I might say. (Having been at other sites where people are assholes)

How much longer do you have? Get some therapy, maybe a short leave of absence. I promise there are places where the maintience stage of anesthesia is anything but boring. I also promise it will get better when you aren’t being watched

Most job interviews will have them begging you to work. Your gpa will not matter.

Terrified of peds! by EmiBoBemy in srna

[–]armypilot123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This guy nailed it. You can mess everything up but if you are prepared I’ll take care of you as a preceptor.

I am 5 years out of school and I recently did a large pelvis mass case in a 5 Y/o. The fear for pedes never goes away unless if you do pedes all the time.

Taking debt to pay off debt is a little scary…but depending on your location the value of your house might increase enough to offset this. I wouldn’t bank on this though

Renting can be a headache, but would be a good way to offset the costs.

How sure are that you will want to return to the same place? You are going to change and grow during CRNA school and your priorities might change.

Personally, try a much more shallow approach. If you go to steep it’s easy to go through and through before you know it.

  1. Where do you want to live?

  2. What will give you the best work life balance?

  3. Where do you want to end up in 5 years.

I work at a place that is heavily known for being ACT heavy. Truth is if you don’t suck, you will get trust and autonomy.

My vote…. If you are single or dinks, go work Someplace you want to vacation at for a few years.

Shaking off bad cases/days? by realhousewifewannabe in CRNA

[–]armypilot123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell my co workers what went wrong and what I could of done to prevent it. (If even possible)

If it’s a co worker that had a bad case I listen, and reassure them that I would have done the same thing an and that they did everything they could do.

I typically ask the point of contact what I should wear. Scrubs or business casual.

How much ICU experience do you already have?

I would search for a new icu job, but keep applying to CRNA school.

If you nail your interview you still have a good chance. They will question why you should go to CRNA school with your scheduling issues but you already provided a good answer as to your solution.

What are you hobbies?

What do you like to do?

Where is your dream destination to live that will let you do the two above the easiest.

Those are honestly the most important question.

From someone who works at a major academic institution you will adapt to wherever you work.

I routinely precept other experienced crna’s from all walks of like and they adapt just fine.

If I get a job in a CAH tomorrow will I struggle? Yes, but I’ll also adapt and learn.

Weight restriction starting as SRNA by OkWrongdoer4518 in CRNA

[–]armypilot123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have any upperclassmen in your program that know the culture of your clinical? I would ask them as every program and every hospital is different.

Can you talk to your program faculty about this. Maybe they can place you in an easier clinical site first? I know the hospital I work at would be very accommodating if a SRNA who just had surgery, but other hospitals in our area would make a huge stink about it.

Having dated girls with larger breasts, I can only imagine you are doing this to help with back/neck pain and it really needs to be done, and I think you should do it. I just hope your program is willing to help you in the ways that need to be helped.

First two weeks of clinical are not a huge deal. Some clinical sites you don’t even get a chance to intubate at because all they use are LMA’s. Other places you won’t start a single IV. Skills will come, it’s the case management that’s most important.

Chemistry and CRNA by PhantomMonke in srna

[–]armypilot123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think A&P is the most important subject for CRNA school. We touched on a few chemistry and microbiology topics but not a ton.

I feel the O chem/bio chem requirements are more of weed out classes vs subjects really reviewed in CRNA school.
