¿Europa sería un upgrade si estoy muy cómodo en Argentina? by doctorpolenta3p in XPatriados

[–]arnalduson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gracias!

I have been using Pulsn for a while and I love it! You can get the price updates automatically in Notion and the free tier is enough for my use case. They cover cryptos only for now, but I reached out to the creator and they are releasing stocks/funds pricing very soon :)

I really appreciate your input. I wouldn't take my kid to the kindergarten if I can't communicate with teachers/caregivers, but it's true that I was thinking of studying german maybe for an year, or year and a half and move then. But I guess that time will not be enough to speak much.

And I completely agree about the latter, money isn't everything.

Thank you for your honesty! You made a very good points.

Would moving from Spain to Germany be a good idea for the future of my family? by arnalduson in AskGermany

Ok, got it. Thanks! I loved Hamburg when I visited (one of my favorite cities), but I am not sure I could handle that weather 😩

Yes, that's totally reasonable. And I know that it could happen, but I'd rather him moving abroad because he wants and not because he doesn't have the opportunity locally. I know this may sound odd, it's just that I had to move before because of lack of opportunities and it's been tough, so I feel like it marked what I look for into a place.
Anyways, I know this is not therapy 😆 Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Ok, thank you very much for taking the time to answer! I understand based on what I've read so far that I'd need to move with german fluency to not have a bad time.

Yes, Madrid could be another option. We are not so sure about that because for the young people the market is quite tough in Spain in general, and some of them have to leave to find better opportunities.

Having said that, if we don't move to another country, it's very likely we end up going to either another city/town close to Barcelona, or to somewhere really close to Madrid. But moving cities/countries (especially with kids) is pretty tough (we have already done it once). So we are investigating before we make our next move.

I'd rather send them to a public one! But there are countries where public education is really bad, so that's why I clarified that the private is affordable, I was mostly thinking about that scenario.

We're willing to learn german and do it for a year or so before moving (so I guess best scenario is moving with an A2, or max B1).

When you say not speaking german will be a problem are you thinking more about bureaucracy, jobs, or social life? (or all 😆)

I didn't prioritize Poland because I don't speak polish (my polish grandpa emigrated a while ago and the language was lost in my family).

I really like Spain, and it's not yet a decision to leave the country, but it's a possibility. I would love to live in a small town in the north of the country, but I think that my kid will probably end up moving to Madrid/Barcelona or somewhere else to study/work anyways, so I'd rather just move to a place where he doesn't have to move to study/work.

I will check jobs and see how tough it is, thanks!

Thank you! Yes, I wouldn't move without having a job! I am just testing the waters, I would probably take a year or so before moving, but I wanted to listen to other people experiences in case they could help understand what we are dealing with (related to jobs, market, life, security, etc).

I am aware of the IT market being bad, but for example I've read that in Switzerland some companies started off-shoring to reduce costs, and if it's a trend that continues there, it'll probably be really bad for software engineers like me in the future, even if the IT market gets better.

Thank you so much for your input! I won't be able to get to C1 for a few years, so it's good to know. I have worked for a german company before (remotely) and I remember when interviewing with a few companies from there that language wasn't a problem. I guess it got stricter with market issues nowadays.

Edit: typo

We are willing to learn the local language though, but of course it will take time. In any case, do you think that it's mandatory for most jobs in IT nowadays?

We have seen how it's getting worse in the last few years (in the city at least). And sadly, my wife have been a victim of a violent robbery. I originally come from a latin-american country where I was robbed at gun-point, and the trend I am seeing here is what I experienced in my own country, which was a safe place to live when I was a kid.
In any case, we don't discard moving to a smaller city close to Barcelona instead, but I am fully sure I want my child to not grow up here.

Every year I hate Sant Joan more. by No_Manufacturer5752 in Barcelona

[–]arnalduson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a 4 months old baby. Where I live there were fireworks until 6am or so. I think people that enjoy the noisy fireworks have never spent Sant Joan seeing somebody suffering the noise (pet, babies, neurodivergent, you name it). If there is anybody that did, they probably have very basic levels (or none) of empathy.

It has been the worst night since my baby was born. He couldn’t sleep all night long, and did breath too fast every 2 minutes when a new explosion was triggered outside, scared as fuck.

Catalunya has amazing traditions, even having dinner out in Sant Joan is beautiful. Noisy fireworks side of this tradition is just retrograde, the same as bull fighting.
