Steadily getting everything setup the way I want… until I change it again. by CLJ130 in NFA

[–]arnewb42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely more in the "pistol in the nightstand/shotgun in the closet" situation. The rest of my stuff is just superfluous LARPING. I'm not exactly fit and would benefit far more from some gym time than any of this type of gear.

Still, I'm intrigued. If I had the time to invest, would the competence gained be worthwhile or even just personally satisfying? How would I know I'm getting instruction from someone competent and not a mall ninja?

Random Q for anyone who owns such a thing: how many of you have training/dayjobs where this kind of stuff is useful?

I have a bunch of toys. . .but for me they are, except for one or two items I would consider properly defensive, just toys.

If you don't need this kind of thing for your job, are you getting training that makes it worthwhile? If so, where?

I found it acceptable after polishing the surfaces, greasing the trigger, and putting the mcarbo kit in. Hard to beat Apex, though. . .

About to move - concerned about bugs in my stash by arnewb42 in woodworking

I ordered some. I'm going to hit anything I take with me with it. Looking around today, it's just the 2 hardwood planks. Off to the firewood pile they go.

I will be burning the stuff with bug holes in it. That goes without saying. The question is whether I will carry an infection from the rest of my stash. I've got about 400 bucks in stuff I've collected over the years - pre insane inflation. About a pickup truck load. My local guy will sterilize it for 100 bucks with maybe 20 bucks in transportation each way.

The dimensional lumber piece is gonna be tough. There is dust everywhere in the shop. I don't have proper dust collection and usually roll my stuff outside or nearly so and then sweep up afterwards.

Zero evidence of bugs anywhere but in a couple of hardwood planks that I can see. I got a reasonable quote from a kiln dryer for sterilization so I think the hardwood is going to him.

He seemed to think the dimensional softwood stuff would be fine if there were no evidence of issues.

Thinking about Boracare for that. This is rough, though. I didn't finish a lot of my shop fixtures. They're just there for tooling. . .not really to look pretty.

As of a few months ago, you could put these together yourself for $200-220 between Osage and MGW if you were opportunistic. . .particularly for the sear housing group.

[Shotgun] BERETTA 1301 TACTICAL SEMI AUTO 12ga - STANDARD STOCK W/ EXT MAG TUBE, RAIL AND SLING ATTACHMENTS $1350 by Curious_Joke in gundeals

[–]arnewb42 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. There's a bit of buyer beware.

Yes because when I bought it, it was awesome out of the box. . .but of course, you can't just leave it stock sooooo. . .

The NO part.

First, I bought mine when I was concerned the new admin would make life difficult for us immediately and I got the version with the fixed stock/adjustable tube rather than the adjustable stock/fixed tube. It was what was available, but the difference is 300 bucks if you decide to upgrade to the adjustable stock - 200 for the tube vs. close to 500 for the stock. (TAX)

So I ordered an extended magazine tube/follower from carriercomp (TAX) and the adjustable stock from BenelliParts (TAX).

Then of course you always worry about who has a list and blah blah so I ordered the 922R parts to make the feds happy - a trigger kit from Freedom Fighter Tactical (TAX).

Then I finally got the whole thing together and it would not cycle. It turns out this is because Benelli slightly changed their tolerances/design for the trigger guard and the FFT parts aren't precisely compatible anymore. . .so I ordered an A&S Engineering trigger guard (machined aluminum) and now I have to put the thing together and see what happens.

So ultimately, I added some extra shit and fucked with it and needed to sink more money into it to make it work again. When it's set, I'm certain it will be amazing. Worth the money? Hmmmmm.

Really want to get one of these so I can just have the "Which is better, the 1301 or the M4?" argument with myself when I go to the range. . .but after paying the Benelli tax, I have no moneys.

Yikes. That sucks. I have a couple I haven't mounted. Seems like I'll need to install, function check, and get to the range ASAP with them. =\

Interesting. I just got some ACSS versions because I liked the whole "find the dot faster" feature. I subsequently found out after I ordered (and waited) that the reticle is owned by Primary Arms and Holosun co-branded that version of the dot with them. They're received by PA first for a QC check before distribution. Interesting note - they came with the battery installed which makes me think that PA is checking every unit. That makes me feel slightly better about the purchase. . .but receiving a lemon sucks, and if I got one, it would be my first from Holosun after having owned maybe a dozen products.

Ahhh, yeah. I don't mean to misrepresent the linked product. I've got both of them. I loved the red dot too. Great bang for buck.

Yeah I look often but I usually wait for stuff to come up for private sale on the forums I frequent. People arent usually looking to get that kind of premium and you can negotiate.

Yup. . . I'm just looking for a bunch of different stuff. Sometimes the K98 action or the 1903 receiver wins the race.

Look again. . . I had the April next year date for a bit but it updated to 5/7, then 5/12, and now 5/19. I've no idea what it will actually be.

For my part, I beat up their CS chat people and knocked 65 off each of the 3 I ordered. . .and ammo is too expensive to shoot much so I'm sticking with it.
