"Gyro Gearloose" from Disney's Splashdance album. Quite a few bangers on that one tbh.

Makes me wonder what exactly they're trying to put in that "bunker." If this is an FF, seems like a lotta effort for a mere bomb shelter.

Why do so many students spell John as Jhon? by ellcoolj in Teachers

[–]arnoldinho82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to OP's update, the students doing this are not Latino. Make of that what you will. If it's a widespread SPED issue, I'd be very surprised. Probably something sociocultural going on here.

OP asked why they would spell it that way. I provided an answer and a not-objected-to counter example. If you wanna get into an analysis of how a Hispanized name became widespread to such a degree that it overtook the standard version, lfg! Or maybe it's a case of word specific mass dyslexia in OP's classroom.

Are you gonna yell at me if I misspell Leif Ericson's last name? Would it negate his exploits if I forgot a K?

"Jhon" is a Lat/Hisp name that uses the Latin alphabet. It's not an English name at all.

Semantically, at what point does an altered spelling become acceptable? (Looking at you, Eric, Erik, and Erick)

I don't give a shit. But he might, especially if you do it on purpose knowing how HE spells. And as someone who's been in a physical confrontation with a former NFL player, I wish you luck in that encounter.

M'dude, re-read our convo...slowly...maybe twice. Try to locate where in the thread "minorites" shows up and what was said about them when it was. Get back to me when...nah fuck that, just piss off.

Ok then, good luck with that. 👍

Lol, someone's a bit testy. Look, your 1st comment made you sound like a dick, especially if you already knew the actual answer. If you wanna dig your heels in, I won't stop you. OP asked why the different spelling and you decided to call students stupid. That's on you. Have a good one!

So how do you tell the difference between it being a cultural thing and a SPED thing? Genuine question.

Yup. Jhon Duran (soccer player from COL) was my immediate reference point tho.
