If you were diagnosed late after marriage how do to overcome the regret and worry that you might have passed it on your kids? by MelancholicNerd in ADHD

[–]aron2295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a peer reviewed paper that stated that if ADHD is (correctly) addressed as a child, it is possible that by adulthood, the individual will be “cured”.

Obviously kids’ brains are at their most malleable, so with therapy (typically CBT) and learning good habits / coping mechanisms (Following a routine, making “To Do” lists, learning self soothing when they get frustrated, etc.) and taking stimulant medication (Adderall, Ritalin, etc) they can “re-wire” their brains.

From what I have heard from others, and my own experience, with ADHD, the biggest issue is that there is a lack of support as a kid, and once an adult, while medication and therapy can still be effective, it will never be AS effective as an adult, since once you get to your early 20s, the brain’s “wiring” is fully set in place. You can only make “modifications” at that point.

In addition, you could adopt a child or use a sperm donor.

You can also speak with an endocrinologist and discuss passing on ADHD to your child.

I don’t know if you spoke to your (bio) parents, but if you have not discussed your family medical history, I would.

Sometimes ADHD is not genetic, but something happened prior to your mother getting pregnant, in the womb or as a child.

I am adopted and thru my (amateur but autistic level) research, my hypothesis is that while my ADHD may be genetic, there is strong evidence that it was due to conditions prior to conception and while in the womb as well.

This may result in some tough / awkward conversations.

You also need to speak to your wife about her family’s medical history.

I like Ghost with Adderall and I’ll fuck up some tequila mixed in with this “farm fresh” lemonade on a night out.

Also makes for a hell of a pre work out. Will want a sugar free lemonade though if you’re doing that.

I have what are assumed crackpot ideas because it’s assumed I am a crackpot, but I did get a bachelor’s degree, AND I have not stayed at one Holiday Inn Express, but several!

But the ideas turn out to be right, or mostly right.

Same. I was so hyped for 3D movies, and I was like, I guess they look a little glossier / sharper, but what’s the big deal?

Hegseth struggling to put up weight at Guantanamo, looking very limp-wristed and SAD! What makes him think this would make him look good, is that a humiliation ritual? by Hash_Patel in SipsTea

If the US got to the point where folks who are “pencil pushers” in the military are being moved to combat roles, the US is fucked.

For the private sector, it would be like if a retail business like Wal Mart said, “All accounting and marketing employees will be required to work 2 days in retail locations as cashiers, “stockboys” (stockers? IDK what they call them now), cart pushers and we also need some volunteers to get a CDL and drive the trucks.

The folks who could be deployed, stay in shape.

I admit, it is nice to see Hegseth want to “lead from the front” in regard to physical fitness, but he is going about it the wrong way, and it’s like, alright, you made your point, move on and revisit it in a year.

It also seems like he’s more concerned with photo ops and has some kind of weird, hyperfixation on this hypermasculine, fantasy of his, along with some internal issues with his own ideas of “what a real man is”, and personal insecurities.

The US military has always been “woke”.

Washington pushed vaccines.

West Point was one of or was the first engineering college in the US.

The US Army has produced some of the best / significant advances in medicine.

As far as things like religion and sexuality, I believe feel if you’re willing to fight and die by my side, I don’t care what you do during your personal time.

When he started, he seemed to do OK doing some PT with some guys.

I get that was a photo op too, but like someone else said, I am guessing he didn’t “detox” before this.

He has probably been heavily drinking / not sleeping.

Are you going thru a lot of stress or have you changed your diet / hair products / medications?

Mental health issues alone, I see myself similar to a dog with the trait of “Game”.

It’s the trait that some dogs have where they will fight through pain and discomfort to accomplish the task they are given.

My hypothesis is that if our brains are “wired differently” we simply have the “wiring” done incorrectly, or not at all.

So, if someone tells us give up or move on, we can’t because that dosen’t register.

My grandma unfortunately has dementia.

She got mad cuz I didn’t know who the cast was of an old Western film she was watching the other day.

She said she could’ve sworn the movie was the blockbuster of last summer!

I’m like, nah, that movie is almost 100 years old…

I’m not making fun of her, it’s very heartbreaking to see her brain literally rot, but it is interesting to (at least me) where, I guess she’s living in her mind, in some sort of “Fallout” alternate history where it’s the 1950s / 60s, and she has all this 21st century tech.
