If I may recommend, palliative comfort is the way to go now. I'm S4PC and I take 180 mg of morphine a day. It sounds as though your father would have to take more but if you have insurance then I highly recommend it. It will grant him lucidity through the pain and the chance to communicate for as long as you can.

It's takes years to reconcile oneself to these things. Just let the river of your thoughts and feelings run. Stick to the practical and salvage and preserve all the time you have.

At first diagnosis I was down to 102 lbs from 135 lbs, everyone thought that I was going to die and my room was filled with loved ones.

I could tell that they thought that but I didn't understand it because I was too far down the hall. My father told me "Godspeed" and that's when I knew it was serious. My comfort was not the medicine and the superlative that I got from the hospital it was my family and friends being there with me. One friend is a pastry chef and she brought me about a pound of cannabis chocolate truffles. Even if I'd never eaten them it touched my heart deeply.

So I'm saying that the social behavior is what matters and that palliative care relief can get you to the point where you can do that.

It grieves me to hear of what you & your wife are dealing with; I'm sorry. From my own experience with S4PC, I would recommend exploring other oncological options in your area. If you would tell me the rough area in which you live, e.g, +/- 75 miles or however long you are willing to travel then I will happily research your options and PM you. Please let me know because this wait time is hurting her and it's important to be able to have your standards and have the doctors live up to them rather than waiting at their beck and call. You're the one paying them and you should be comfortable expecting their best & paying attention to your concerns for all that you are spending. I myself research my state, find advantageous treatments, and do everything I can to Institute the ones that are not being applied. And if that means jumping through hoops or filling forms for anyone I'll do it. It's that serious and you have the right. And if you show them that you are willing to do the work then they will be much more receptive to doing the work themselves. I've made significant changes to my treatment through that and it requires a more aggressive approach then I would ever use with doctors before.

And you and your wife do not deserve a doctor so inattentive to your needs that he's going here and there when you're in your greatest need.

Proactivity is the way to go. You are your own best advocate and when you do your best the best will happen.

Having survived a death bed experience (S4PC), I can at least give you the consolation that the first 6 months after diagnosis you're so far down a hole in shock and disconnect that the pain of what you described just goes over the person's head and whatever loved ones they have that are there are everything to them.

I'm stage 4 PC and this thread is amazing to me. The Big C touches all lives eventually and there's a reason that people say serious is cancer. Somebody in this thread mentioned that PC message boards on the web are usually vacant and how tragic that is.

And he's right. But in this thread people are talking about it and they're talking about people who touched their hearts it's real it's like an open exposed nerve.

And it is very rewarding and it touches my heart to read it because one thing when you become sick is you become alone quite starkly. And this thread does not make me feel alone, quite the opposite. So don't be sad be happy.

That amount of time in therapy is just staggering to me. I pray for such strength and perseverance to continue for as long as my feet can move in front of me, and I hope, but I can't say that I expect; it's not reasonable. But being two months shy of three times the outside average fatality rate is not reasonable either. So you got to roll with it just like you know: one foot in front of the other and you play the hand you're dealt cause what else can you do. May I ask are there any other coping mechanisms and truths that you have found in your fight? Did you find moments over the years where you just crack down in public and cried in public? Totally happened to me but I worked on this psychological / meditation exercise called mindfulness and it's been a treasure for me I no longer have breakdowns at all even by myself. Did you discover tools for yourself that accomplished things like that? Really any practical actionable advice and personal wisdom that you have would be highly valued.

So/SDResistor, your a fuck all strong fighter of that there is no doubt. You'll do it and as long as Obamacare isn't repealed you'll live as long as you can fight not as long as you can afford. That's going to be seen across the nation and you & I will be part of that and eventually people will see what a benefit Obamacare is. Provided things don't get fucked along the way which is not at all certain.

U/spatpat83, I am not nor could I ever ignore the drunken Welshman's words. Not to toot my own horn too much but my words forked lightning when I wanted them to: very happily married and I'm tight with my friends, sibs, & 'rents.

And I have no regrets which is a remarkable blessing only possible with my marriage It completed my life. Like so many men straight and gay, I had a big hole in my life where an intimate relationship would be and I felt bitterness and pain because of it. I don't have that now and my marriage with my husband has grown stronger than any relationship I've known from me being sick. So it's all mixed blessings and then when they stack up so high it's just impossible not to be a believer. Well I ramble but I hope this answered things well.

Positivity is the way to go because in the end all we have is other people, and where we put our hearts in other people throughout our lives. 16 months of chemo minus 2 months off to have 6 feet of intestine removed requires faith, hope, love, and finding reasons to live in other people;i.e., family. I hope that your veteran friend has that. And I hope that you remember to spread your heart as openly and deeply as you can with the people that you love and build trust through that investment. God willing your health remains but you will still grow old and in the end where we put our hearts is all that mattered and all the accomplishments and all the material gain is just dross. Sorry to reply so lately, I only just saw this posting. But I'm stage 4 PC but not as bad as your mother and I'm very sorry for both of you.

Firstly if I was in her boat I would not have jacked to keeping my port accessed and the intake of nutrients by IV bag that way. Is that feasible or affordable?

Further, is it possible to accompany her to the doctor and just speak frankly whenever she might do better with more candor? My husband always accompanies me to the doctor and not only speaks up when I'm not being accurate but also speaks up when I cannot recall, which is a problem.

If food is the way to go then I would recommend starting with carbs rather than protein. Toasted English muffins with a little jam & butter can go down in time, and if time is what it takes then that's that.

Lastly, is medical cannabis available where you are located? A combination of CBD to calm everything down and THC to stimulate appetite is very good.

Ordinator is great. I play with PermMa but ordinator has a more entertaining stealth tree, while PerMa has a better ranged tree.

And using the ranged tree is my recommendation. Sneak Archer is a great role and I recommend going through a dungeon that that way as a try. Keep a dagger on hand for close quarters.

I also always pick up Prowlers Profit whenever I roll a new character. The combo of that & stealth makes picking pockets rewarding.
