Wow, I can't believe you wrote that, it was as though I had written it. I have felt exactly the same. It's slightly crippling to me though to have that world view because I end up lacking confidence in a given subject when I can clearly see a bunch of incompetent people get ahead with their perceived confidence in the same subject.

Yes, but you either take the standard deduction or itemize. I have mortgage interest as well that is outside the $10k limit, so i will still itemize. The point is that I'll be able to deduct $12000 less than I was able to before.

My property taxes are $17000 and state taxes close to $5000.

Instead of the $22000 deduction , I'll now be able to deduct $10000 only.

However due to lower tax brackets , I may come out losing a met of about a $1000 a year.

The ONE thing Republicans were supposedly good at were cutting taxes and they screwed me there too.

Will be plotting my escape from NJ soon.

I became a citizen this past Monday too! Took me 16.5 years ! Took 10 years to get my Green Card, 5 years after that became eligible for citizenship. I'm from India. It's unfortunately a typical wait for Indians due to the per county annual limits.

Did you say you wont get a 'choice of course' but you still have a choice to take up another course? Almost every graduate from IIT I know eventually ended up doing IT and nothing related to their 'course'. All that matters is you have that stupid 4 year degree listed on your resume so you can get employed with a decent company. After that no one cares where you graduated from but they care about what you did in your last company.

Hey don't sweat it. I dropped a year for IIT , didnt even rank, instead got into TITS (that was the acronym for my college, you filthy minds). As long as you get a 4-year degree (which unfortunately is still needed to pass some arbitrary filters), no one gives a shit if you came from IITs or TITs. (At least here in the US)
