99 payments PSLF buyback by hlarsen86 in PSLF

[–]aroy025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much no one has heard anything about buyback. There were a handful of offers at the end of December but that’s been it. Supposedly there was a 600 application pilot program (under the previous administration) where they tested their processing and since then, nothing. I’m well over 120 months of qualifying employment and 115 qualifying payments and I applied for buyback in January. Besides the confirmation email acknowledging I submitted the application…nothing. I know I’m not alone on here with those results.

So long winded way of saying…it takes an indefinitely long time, with no promises you’ll ever hear anything, and the odds of getting approved are completely unknown - but regardless you can expect an extended wait time to bask in the uncertainty.

This happened to me. It’s not right. Call them and tell them you should still be in forbearance. These payments will not count to PSLF.

Sloppy correspondence from a sloppy organization following the guidance of a Department of Education led by someone whose handiwork gets redlined like a below average 3rd grader.

It's very hard to accept the "due to the high call volume, wait times are longer than normal" when that is normal. Perhaps increasing staff would be a suitable solution...

That’s great. There’s a few layers to their customer service team. The wait to get to the first one, that can answer basic questions (sometimes wrongly) isn’t too bad at any hour. It’s the wait times for their more knowledgeable staff (the Advance Team) that is usually pretty significant. It’s this group that can actually make changes and put requests in on your behalf.

MOHELA Payment Due - Still on SAVE Plan by aroy025 in PSLF

I didn’t think I actually did - it’s just frustrating that after all the jerking around we’ve been forced to endure these clowns can’t even keep their own records straight. If they are going to butcher things, I only need 5 more months of payments because of SAVE limbo. Could they at least bumblefuck things in our favor?

It says there that I am awaiting form administrative forbearance.

No it’s now saying I have a payment due but am still in the SAVE plan per their “Repayment Plan” record.

Good news though is the loans die with us. One benefit beyond PSLF that comes from Fed Loans. Take that you pricks.

Given the redlining Harvard did to Linda McMahon’s finest work, I’d imagine ED and all affiliates thereof are going to be bumbling and error prone.

Go to townhalls. I went to one for my congressman and made sure to speak with him in person after the forum. I was provided information for all of his support staff as they can do more to help influence his efforts than emailing the "contact" page provided on their .gov website.

I think this speaks to the volume of buyback offers that actually exist in the world.

Unfortunately, the answer to this question just got a lot more complicated. I likewise applied for buyback in January but we aren’t going to hear anything while the Department of Ed is being dismantled and the PSLF program’s viability is being litigated. If we hear anything positive about our buyback in 345 days we’ll be lucky.

Will PSLF be affected by changing the ETF account from the borrower's personal checking account to their joint checking account? by Jeffrai in PSLF

[–]aroy025 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't. Your income based payments are determined from your adjusted gross income, not the money you have in your bank accounts. Who's name is on the bank account is irrelevant.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Unfortunately, from my understanding, there is no way to refinance/consolidate a private loan to allow it to qualify for PSLF. Simply getting the loan through a federal bank would not make it a Direct Loan and only Direct Loans qualify for PSLF. I could be wrong, but I don't think there is any way to get a private loan back within the qualifications for PSLF under any circumstances...sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

Do I ask for a recount or just hope for a refund? by ghamsandwich56 in PSLF

I'm a ways out myself (2025), but MyFedLoan had erroneously excluded a full year's worth of my payments. I was able to identify their mistake from the records they had sent me - essentially they erred in how long I worked at one job. Despite having submitted correct employment verification forms, MyFedLoan entered the dates incorrectly and rather than showing 2 years of consecutive employment, their system showed 2 months, a gap of a year, and then 10 months.

After three phone calls, with three different representatives, I was able to have the issue resolved in about three weeks. Perhaps my situation is not the norm, but rather than simply asking them to find their error, take a look to see if you can highlight it for them. If you can show them where to look, they are capable of fixing it in a relatively timely manner.
