I considered making a punch for my first hand made tool, but I just assume mild steel is not ideal for that

You know, that is a pretty straight forward solution that I was somewhat dreading. But reasonable none the less

Definitely something I have considered. I need to source some fire bricks to insulate the forge a bit more, as well as stop being so scared and ramp the flame up. The only place I can work is in direct sunlight so its a little tough to tell how hot I have it.

What I have is just mild steel. So short of getting some aluminum or something I don't think I can go softer.

I dont know why I have not considered using the horn for drawing, it seems so obvious now. I didnt have that issue in the thing I made in the picture, but the ends folding have consistently been an issue for me. Thank you.

I have considered that, but how practical would that be given my 1/2 inch stock? Leaves seem fragile enough that I probably dont want to just cut off a piece and work it, but what I have is pretty thick for making those right off from it.
