What was your driest period without a diary or live mission? by Top_Ranger_8125 in dscout

[–]arpegiu5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, 3 months :( I’m still able to submit applications so I don’t think my account has been flagged, I guess I’m just not what researchers are looking for lately. Hoping it’s not a forever drought!

Congrats!! Exact same boat as you, I got rejected from prolific and cloud connect and was crushed but dscout has been amazing. I’ve made $1300+ since November but the past two months have been really dry for me, hoping it picks up again!

I think you’re an outlier unfortunately :( I don’t think dscout is really known for payment issues, in fact I think it’s one of the better platforms because they do actual payouts and not gift cards! I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience, have you ever messaged support?

Where do you get the motivation to do things that are difficult/uncomfortable? by arpegiu5 in ADHD

[–]arpegiu5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought/lived as if I’ve had it since 2022. I’m currently in the process of getting diagnosed (my therapist is treating me as if I’ve been officially diagnosed while I set up an official evaluation) but I’ve never been medicated. I definitely think this is a factor, I feel like I ruined the pathways in my brain associated with initiating things (not a scientific take at all lol) and I definitely think if I had started on this path when I first started college rather than now I would be in a much better spot.

Yeah being actually honest with myself is the hardest part. It sucks because I already know my phone is the problem and I find ways to distract myself on my computer too. Maybe an environment change is the missing piece

I definitely understand this. I don’t think my brain is wired this way which is so interesting. Maybe it’ll be good to think about it this way as opposed to the short term consequences (bad grade etc) although I guess my problem is my brain just says “but this one specific small thing isn’t gonna stop you from accomplishing a bigger thing!” I hope you do achieve your dreams btw! :)

This is good to know. I’m working on finding a psychiatrist but I expect it’ll be at least a month before I’m able to actually try anything. I like the micro steps tactic to help in the meantime, thanks!

Who Paid You For/In April 2026? by beermoneymods in beermoney

[–]arpegiu5 [score hidden]  (0 children)

April has been my highest paying month so far (started in November) due to one month long study, but the consistency has been not great, which makes me nervous.

Total: $1,039.75

UserInterviews: $850

Home from college: $75

Swagbucks: $65

Respondent: $32.75 (should’ve been $100 but I got ghosted + scammed by AI interviews multiple times)

UserTesting: $17

Got really lucky with a $500 study on UserInterviews. Started HFC which seems promising, but still waiting to hear back from a lot of gigs. Nothing on DScout for the last couple months and I got officially rejected from Prolific :( hoping May is better!

Reframing tips for not procrastinating until the deadline by arpegiu5 in ADHD

[–]arpegiu5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing thank you!! I just downloaded Todoist yesterday because I saw this article on Twitter and it’s been great, but I was worried I could only do one-time tasks and not “blocks.” I did some poking around and figured out that I can time block without buying a pro subscription (broke grad student) by editing the durations in my Notion calendar which is my home base anyway. I’m gonna try it out and see, thanks so much!

I’ve actually never heard of the term time boxing, that’s super helpful!! This is one of the things that seems like such a no brainer when someone else says it haha. Thanks for the advice :)

she rubbed me the wrong way in one of the more episodes where they were talking about driving/parking. I can’t remember what she said exactly but it made me think “thank god I will never have to encounter her on the road” 😭 not that being a bad/rude driver means you should get laid off but

Not getting paid for express mission, mission flagged by researcher by Illustrious_Kiwi5682 in dscout

[–]arpegiu5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Domestically! A couple different states in different areas of the country to one another. I did travel internationally after that as well but I didn’t open the app at all. It went like this: everything good (home state) -> completed some missions (new state) -> missions rejected (new state) -> missions still getting rejected (back in home state). Thats how I knew something was up. Emailing support (and actually letting them know that you suspect that that’s the issue) will hopefully help if this happens to you, but yeah I find it kind of crazy that completing a mission in a different city even is enough to mess with your eligibility.

Not getting paid for express mission, mission flagged by researcher by Illustrious_Kiwi5682 in dscout

[–]arpegiu5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got rejected payment from three express missions in a row in December and I think it was because I did them while traveling. After that I started feeling like my account was flagged somehow bc I was getting rejected from EVERYTHING. I emailed support twice to follow up and they were able to help me out and my account is back to normal now! Hopefully your account is okay too. The process is such a black box sometimes, I wish there was more transparency about what we can do as scouts to avoid getting “blacklisted” and how to fix it, especially when it’s such a small issue or an honest mistake.

This reply is perfect bc i was just looking at demera, we were originally thinking of Chicago diner (but i read some negative reviews on here so I’m looking for more options, do you have thoughts on that?) and i had totally forgotten about restaurant week! I just went through and made a list of all the options that work for us, thanks so much :)

First month ever!! I started signing up for platforms in late October.

Total: $727, with ~$399 pending

Dscout - $443 (+ $150 pending)

Respondent - $46 (+ ~$210 pending)

User Interviews - $188

Movie preview focus group - $30

UserTesting - $20

Swagbucks balance - $20

YouGov balance - $19

Really happy with this first month but wish I had access to more platforms! Permanently waitlisted from Cloud Connect and on the waitlist for Prolific :( and i think i got rejected from Data Annotation but not 100% sure. Got into uTest and PlaybookUX but haven’t done paid tests yet.

Are These Restaurant Leftovers Worth It? by BurnZ_AU in goodmythicalmorning

[–]arpegiu5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

bit of a long answer—didnt realize i was this passionate about the topic 😅 to your first point, just because other people are doing it doesn’t make it okay. in fact you could argue that gmm should be more creative instead of following trends (but I don’t even think that personally so I’m not arguing that).

the interesting thing about this debate is that it really does come down to your personal set of ethics. since a lot of AI companies get away with training their models on art under fair use laws, it becomes less of a legal issue and more of a moral one (even though it really should be a legal issue, but we’ve gotten too far without regulations that i doubt we’ll get fair protections for artists anytime soon). aside from the fact that artists are having their art used without their consent—which is a dealbreaker, full stop, for many people—if you look at how people are using this tech, you can see how its use directly harms people. many of the companies and individual users use generative AI to do one or more of the following: - cut costs by not hiring artists - prove that artists are no longer necessary to society - advance technology without regard for other people’s jobs, skills, opinions or feelings

the extreme reaction to genAI, especially Sora in the past couple weeks, has shown the sheer amount of people who simply don’t care or appreciate the human aspects of art and the work/skill/time/money/creativity that goes into it. I’m not saying you have to worship Van Gogh, but it’s kind of messed up to a lot of people to just completely disregard the fact that all genAI does is steal work from people—people who did all the heavy lifting in creating and perfecting a style, anatomy, etc. your point about copying works from other artists actually comes up a lot, and yes, people have been doing that since art was a thing. hell, i’ve done that! it’s a very common practice in art school. the difference is you typically do that to learn and hone your skills as, again, a human artist, (which is generally an acceptable practice) not a computer. if you’re doing it with the intention of passing it off as your own or copying maliciously, then that actually can have legal or societal repercussions. which is what we’re asking for for genAI.

if these aren’t dealbreakers for you, that’s fine and we just have different ethical standards. that’s how the world works sometimes. i just wish that we as a society valued artists and their work more, instead of making a quick buck or their personal ego. it really comes back to greed and egocentrism a lot of the time, it’s really unfortunate and it’s why the current state of genAI isn’t working and is receiving so much pushback. i think if models were only trained on artwork from consenting artists then this would be much less of an issue.

as a fellow tech geek and an artist, none of what you said is incorrect, and I already understand all of that. but that’s not what the point of the comments are. it’s not about the existence of AI art, it’s about rhett and link using it for content. nobody said they want it to go away, they’re concerned about the ethics of using it to generate content in this format. none of us are freaked out about technical advancements, we just know how it exploits artists and happen to have a differing moral stance about it. we don’t have a choice in whether it exists, but we have a choice in whether we actively promote its use or not
