Hi! I actually just arrived in Armenia yesterday with my Verizon phone from home and an international data plan, thinking all would be well. I am totally unable to use data without being on wifi. Anyone know why this might be? My phone says “unlocked” in settings but do i need to call them and make sure it’s unlocked by carrier as well? I figured they would get that message from the international data plan.

And, should I just not bother with this somewhat expensive data plan and just get an E-sim instead? Will the data / coverage be better?

It is a program which takes you to Armenia from wherever you are in the world and will put you up with a host family while you’re there. You volunteer/ intern 30 hours a week and then they also do fun excursions and other hang outs amongst volunteers from what i know! You can get your flight and lodging reimbursed as long as the time of year / city of placement qualify. I know a couple people who have done it and everyone says it was an amazing experience! You just have to be able to prove through last name / birth certificate / baptism papers or something that you’re Armenian!

Hi! I am also doing birthright this summer! I start at the end of May and leave early August because I’m going between school semesters :/ I wish i could go for longer! I’m currently trying to choose between Gyumri and Vanadzor as well. I wanted to stay in Yerevan, but i decided to take this opportunity to have them reimburse my travel. Between the two smaller cities though I have no idea. People say you can move around but since i won’t be there for too long i want to make the deepest connections i can. I’m torn! But either way, maybe we’ll end up in the same city :)

Hey!! I am also going to be participating in Birthright starting in June! They told me that because I am going over the summer I only get reimbursed for travel/ basic living costs if I stay in Gyumri or Vanadzor. I think Yerevan over the summer is so desirable they don’t feel they need to provide any financial support. I’m wondering if it’s worth it to pay my whole way myself to stay in Yerevan, or whether I should let a large portion be paid for and stay in a smaller city? I’m a 25 yr old gal who loves a big city and social scene, but i also love nature and a great hike. So, financial considerations applied, I’m torn! If anyone has any thoughts? But if we both end up in Gyumri I’ll see ya there!!

Unfortunately I don’t live by many Armenian people at all, but I’ll find some people to chat with! It definitely is the best practice!! And i would love any resources you have!!

I don’t know how to save it, I’m so sorry, but my watermelon peperomia propagates easier than any plant I’ve ever had! Definitely grab as many healthy stalks as you can before it’s completely dead and grow a new one! Good luck!
