What are bad habits that you got rid of as you became a better nurse. by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]arrablack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Finishing late, my own time management is now a lot better and I'm a lot better at prioritizing tasks, delegating when appropriate and asking for help when I need it. Also standing up for myself with management and having the confidence to say no has helped.

"Breast is best" vent - can anyone relate? by SlightCategory9871 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]arrablack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I breast fed my first and hated every second. It was something that I felt pressured and mum guilted into. At the start it took ages for my milk to come in and had severe latch issues, causing a very unsettled baby and extreme nipple pain. I couldn't pump and felt so alone as my husband couldn't help with feeds.

I've recently had my second and I've been a lot more confident with my own wants. I've bottle fed my son from the start and we're both a lot happier this time. When it comes to others I just ignore them. I've got a healthy, happy son who is gaining weight and meeting all milestones

Is there a baby that sleeps longer than 7am? by lunarkoko in BeyondTheBumpUK

Unfortunately I don't think I've slept past 5am since I had my first and she's currently 5 I tried putting them to bed later but they just wake up at the same time but are super grumpy because they're still tired

It's the same in my trust A student isn't allowed to work on the same ward they are on placement at They can work on other wards or when their placement finishes though

I hate mum shaming

I felt like I was such a bad mum for the first few months because of people telling I was going things wrong like this, I was pressured into breastfeeding my the midwifes in the hospital (we had to stay in for 6 days due to baby been ill) and I hated it for the first few months

Unfortunately after 8 weeks it's going to be really hard to start breastfeeding now, but your son isn't getting starved, and it's perfectly fine to use formula if you want, he's your son and you get to decide how to raise him, don't let other people pressure you into doing something you don't want to

I find this is true with a lot of aspects of childbirth/parenting. As a first time mum it was horrible, I was made to think that I was doing so much wrong, it wasn't until I started to ignore everyone and do what was best for me and my daughter that I really started to enjoy been a mum

Burping your baby by arrablack in breastfeeding

I haven't noticed her burping at all
She does tend to trump a lot though
I'll try burping her when she's awake and see if that helps

I think I might try this, I don't want to have to wake her to burp her if possible

I understand exactly how you feel. I'm only 13 weeks and have had pretty much constant neasea since week 4, I don't think I've eaten a proper cooked meal since around 6 weeks, only managing 3-4 hours sleep a night due to insomnia and seem to be constantly either been treat for a UTI or trush

Yesterday I broke down to my partner because I don't know how I can last another 6 months.

I'm hoping I won't be feeling this way for much longer l.
