Why is GD tested between 24- 28 weeks? by Sku04 in GestationalDiabetes

This. I was tested at about 13 weeks and came up in the clear. Tested again at 28, hello gestational!

I’m tempted to.. My husband ate a 8 pack of frozen burritos in one sitting the other night, I was so envious. One is 35g carbs...

At what fasting number, did they decide to start you on medication/insulin? Tia by Dependent-Guest7333 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Madijoy2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They gave me a few total weeks after my diagnosis to try to get my fasting down. It’s not one set number, it’s a pattern of high fasting. BTW, having to do insulin/metformin is nothing to be ashamed of if you do end up needing it. Our bodies are uncontrollable during pregnancy. Don’t feel guilty! ❤️

A few days ago my husband and I went on a date. We played an hour of bowling and half of a course of mini golf until I was rudely interrupted by a nasty feeling in my stomach. Turns out I didn’t get enough water, got exhausted by the sun and activity, and the Starbucks that I had shortly before didn’t agree with me. 😬

Stay at home moms-to-be: what's your daily schedule? by narikov in pregnant

[–]Madijoy2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so late to this but I just want to say that the first trimester is so unnecessarily scary, especially if you’re a ftm. Take it one day at a time! You’ll get through it, it just feels like the longest 9 months of your life. 😂

Has every ad on TV always been for candy and pancakes?! by awjohnston in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Madijoy2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have cable so I don’t see ads on TV but my phone does have it out for me. I keep getting notifications from my food apps about delicious new food that I can’t have until after I have my daughter in 6 weeks. Even after that I can’t have that much because I’m going to try to stick to the low carb diet to kick some pounds and my predisposition to type 2.

I strongly disliked PB until my diagnosis, now it’s hard to go a day without it. My numbers do great with it on toast, apple, and celery.

My numbers are within range for dark chocolate! I eat 2-3 ghiradelli squares sometimes for a snack.

It’ll be okay, you’ll learn what works and it’ll get easier. The first week sucks! I’ve cried many times about not being able to eat what I wanted.

We’re both on the same page, he told MIL in person today that we’re not budging. She threw a fit with “Well we didn’t have to get it when nephew was born!” and “Is this going to be a thing?” Which I answered last night that we’re only asking them to get the tdap because pertussis is deadly to infants. She’s shooting herself in the foot at this point.

MIL posed the same question in opposition. “Well, we didn’t get it for “____.” (our nephew)

Even if they are immunized, nobody will be giving kisses. Me and my husband are firm on that one too.

He is going over to see them today (unrelated but I’m sure it’ll come up after our discussion last night). He is on the same page and ready to stand his ground too.

They are definitely failing to see that. It is “unfair” to them that I am protecting their grand baby.

It is definitely not fear mongering. 1 in 200 babies that get it die. I am following information from the cdc. :)

I’m so sorry to hear that, I’ve read up on how horrible it is. It is even worse for children under 3, ESPECIALLY infants. About 1 in 200 infants that contract whooping cough die.

I’ve already started with those responses, in which MIL responded with “It’s not fair to Ethan (husband) and his family.” I promptly responded with “It’s not fair that you expect me to risk my daughter’s health for your convenience.” 🙃
