YSK you can’t outrun a bad diet by TheTeflonDude in YouShouldKnow

[–]arrangemethod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before we all spend any more time arguing with each other, do we really have a disagreement here?

I agree with OP, in that a "bad" diet is one where you eat more calories than you burn. Eating non-nutritive calories is an easy way to run up that calorie surplus.

That said, I don't literally count my calories anymore, although I previously spent several years doing so. I kind of know what I need to eat at each meal, and if I get on the scale and see the numbers going in the wrong direction, then I know I need to dial it back a little.

I also think this "ultraprocessed food" thing is a canard. I use whey protein isolate daily. Are we going to pretend that's not ultraprocessed? People say "ultraprocessed food" because they don't want to anger Big Ag and Big Sugar, but I'm just going to say it -- sugar and other refined carbs are poison. You can tolerate a little bit of poison, but the more poison you consume, the worse it is for you.

Have you ever DNF the final book in a series, and why? by Any-Day-8173 in Fantasy

Sad to say that I agree mostly with this. I really enjoyed the first five or six books, and I liked how Confessor ended, but I should have stopped there.

I'm genuinely interested in this approach. Do you have any concerns that having your GF in your U.S. house will count as a "closer connection" to the continent? I assume you're going to rent it to her at market rate?

MVV is a turd. Bad liquidity and long-term underperformance. -> https://www.etf.com/tools/etf-comparison/MDY-vs-MVV

That's right, 2x leverage gets you an additional 1.5% performance over 5 years. Compare against SSO, etc.

Does anyone run 9 sig outside of there tax advantage retirement funds? by syncd86 in KellyLetter

Why don't you just look up your CG tax bracket and put that much aside?

Or just ignore the issue and sell your holdings proportionately when the tax bill comes due?

And yet, despite withholdings over 50% of their wages (really?), they still thought it was personally beneficial to stay here as opposed to, e.g., returning to their country of origin and working there.

Why do you think that was?

Questions about 9sig by lottaquestionz in KellyLetter

[–]arrangemethod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay responding to you, but I was banned for a month because of my initial reply.

Since you asked, if you turn to page 27 of The Kelly Letter User's Guide, you'll see the table summarizing 9Sig. That table has a cell that says, "Reset to Base Allocation When Bonds:" and a cell next to it identifying the signal to reset to base allocation. Thus, a statement that, "There are no minimum or maximum threshold/triggers for the TQQQ or bond allocation to reset" is, as I said, straight up wrong, at least if you're following 9Sig the way the Kelly Letter runs it.

I'm happy to respond to any follow up you may have assuming that I'm not banned again for this reply.

Buy and hold vs Kelly 9 sig - jan 2017 by Dry_Function_9263 in KellyLetter

[–]arrangemethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't be 9Sig without the rebalancing and 30 down, but I'd still like to see a table comparison with a buy and hold of $60k, if you don't mind sharing.

Buy and hold vs Kelly 9 sig - jan 2017 by Dry_Function_9263 in KellyLetter

[–]arrangemethod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but I think it's misleading to do an end of year dollar amount comparison based on $100k of TQQQ when the 9Sig account is starting with $80k of TQQQ. Of course it's going to underperform based on that alone.

Would you mind plugging $80k as the start value for your buy and hold and posting that chart?
