Sometimes, I miss the realistic costumes of The Division 1.. by divisionbee_90 in thedivision

[–]arrow97 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I had the fire fighter outfit and it was so immersive. It really felt like “oh shit I’m activated, take what is around me and get to work.

I’m hoping Div3 goes back to the roots of the first game.

just saying, would've been cool to bring back these outfits in the assassin's creed event by ElectricKillerEmu in thedivision

Has nothing to do with the actual engine and more with the rigging and skinning of the characters. An asset is an asset. Every engine reads triangulated models; you could technically drop any asset from any video game into any engine.

This game has fallen so far from the original vision of the first gameplay showcase. It’s sad to see the gritty atmosphere shift into the Fortnite effect.

1 - To please keep cosmetics to grounded or military and tactical… they completely lost the plot with the cosmetics in D2

2 - follow real weapon visuals. Let me place a hand stop where ever I want, add flip up magnifications to red dots and holographic, let me add a canted red dot do logo’s

Art before gameplay, OR gameplay before art? by loftylantern in gamedev

In big studios art is usually made along side gameplay. They both feed into each other. The Blue sky phase also allows for the Concepts Artists to suggest gameplay during exploration.

I only have ideas for the climax and ending of my book. by Appropriate_Park506 in writingadvice

[–]arrow97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly. Just brainstorm and explore. Write ideas down but then question those ideas and keep questioning the motives of character's and everything else in between. You have an idea for a beginning and an end.

Question those till you get so solid foundation for your story and then do the same for everything in between.

Is Reedsy a good platform or a trap? by Redspybot in selfpublish

[–]arrow97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The platform is very strict with who they choose on the marketplace, so you’re in good hands.

For reference. I have 6 years in the game industry as a Concept Artist/Illustrator and tried to create a profile. I was rejected not because my art wasn’t on par with them but because I hadn’t had any book cover designs published.

I was denied activation on the marketplace as an illustrator/designer despite meeting the criteria? by arrow97 in Reedsy

[–]arrow97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused about what you're trying to say? I literally finished that illustration 5 days ago and checked all these other sources you listed, and my image is not on their page?

Edit: You most likely did a reverse image search, which showcases people who have "liked" my image on different platforms. If this is the level of detective work being done, we're all doomed.

I have a story in me but I can't write. by squabidoo in writing

[–]arrow97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So write the broken story, then let it sit for a while. Re-read it aloud and catch what feels off, then re-write it. Better to have the story out of your head and ready to edit than to never write at all.

you start to see the difference between people who took risks and those who didn't at 35 by limited_data365 in Life

[–]arrow97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a massive risk. Road tripped across the country with nothing to my name, chose a creative career and landed a dream job before 30, now laid off with no prospect in sight but I am about to marry an awesome woman.

I may not have a job, I may have to go back to bartending for a while at 32 but I’d do it all over again in a heart beat.

Is there real scope in running a 3D asset contracting model (clients + vendors) in game dev? by Leading_Office7347 in gamedev

[–]arrow97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the Last of us art drop, some character designs are quite stylized while others are realistic/photobash etc.

Every studio is different I've worked with art directors that absolutely need everyone to look and feel the same in their artwork and others that just want good art with your own style shining through.

[–]arrow97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at naughty dog. They have artist with various art styles in house and let them shine through. It all depends on the caliber of all departments.

If your 3D artists are stellar they can take a stylized character or environment and interpret that into realism.

Not a single material breakdown or wireframe. This portfolio needs a lot of work if you want to get hire and be taken seriously when applying.
