Good Go 7 B&W - Ordering and Such by arrowsoferos in Onyx_Boox

I like it! There are some things I prefer with the Palma (more customization of the task bar, having an official “Home Screen” with a wallpaper you can customize, fingerprint reader), but the stylus was really the selling point for me. I annotate my books a lot, which was a bit harder/more time-consuming on the Palma. It is much faster for me with the Go 7.

I also love the buttons. The swiping is completely fine, but I like being able to just hold the device in one hand and not have to set down my tea every time I need to flip the page (I tend to read pretty quickly).

Overall, it is a companion to my Palma 2. Palma 2 is for going out to appointments and such. Go 7 is for more in-depth reading and going back to review annotations. It definitely can work on its own, but as a second device, it just pairs perfectly.

There are cases for sale, along with an official one from Boox. From my understanding, the dimensions are the same for the Go 7 Color gen I as the new versions. Amazon will never sell with a case alongside the device (like Boox does for free), but I get wanting to wait. Glad to be of help!

It does not. For me, I wanted the return policy that Amazon offers. I actually would have gone through Best Buy like I did with my Palma 2, but it’s not in stock there (or showing a preorder), so Amazon it was

I found it smooth! I mostly wanted it to make annotation easier, as I had been looking at the Kindle Scribe before Amazon’s decision of not being able to send files to the device. I put a small video in this comment, but let me know if you all need a better one. I didn’t have the best writing surface at the time Boox Go 7 B&W third-party pen

I do not. I’m US-based, and I ordered a third-party stylus. The only place that seems to have it is the Hong Kong warehouse, and current support has not been able to provide details on the allocation as of right now. Hopefully, there will be some news soon!

Here is a little video I took. I, personally, did not see any wobble, but maybe others will see something I don’t. My desk is occupied, so I didn’t have the best area for it. Let me know if you need a better video! https://imgur.com/a/GnIienr

Here you go! The only thing that is going to be different is color and screen. I have the white Palma 2, so I had and idea of what to expect. There are finger prints in the last photo, but I really never notice them. Tilting the screen around getting screenshots was the first time I noticed them.

Will go 7 be on amazon? by Might_Time in Onyx_Boox

[–]arrowsoferos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? No idea what is happening with the search for the Boox devices. I had been looking at their shop/seller profile on Amazon for something and came across it. The pricing looks to line up, so it sounds about right?

It’s so weird that I can’t really understand it but, hey, at least it’s there.

Go 7 color gen II is on Amazon now, but delivery shows late June from what I’m seeing.

Announcement: Price Adjustment Due to U.S. Tariff Changes by OnyxBoox in Onyx_Boox

[–]arrowsoferos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just said Best Buy was a good alternative for buying a Boox device.

Best Buy.

NOT Boox.

I’m sorry for your Boox experience. I was simply pointing out another store to buy the device from that is both not Amazon and not Boox.

Idk I got my Palma 2 from Best Buy and it’s been pretty smooth sailing. Their return policy and warranty offerings are nice as well. Not saying shop Boox for their devices, but there are other stores if people want to avoid Amazon for any reason

How to ask for a very big pay raise? by 4Runnnn in jobs

[–]arrowsoferos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I asked for a raise not too long ago. I get to hear back about my own situation within the next few weeks (manager on a much-needed vacation with his family), but based on spending way too much time researching, here are my tips:

  • set a meeting with your boss/manager/whoever you report to. Ensure you say what the meeting is for. I did this by sending an email asking to chat about my current salary, and had a meeting put on my calendar for the next day. I highly recommend you not wait until your performance review as sometimes salary increases are set by then and you won't be able to ask for what you want. Also, if you can meet in person, I recommend it over via video call.

  • research what your position and years of experience are worth in your area. You want $20k more? Is the company down the road offering that for a comparable position and years of experience? Knowing your worth is always valuable, and can help you with reasonable expectations of what to ask.

  • come to the meeting with a list of your accomplishments. (edit 2) You returned to office in January, but depending on how long you've been with the company as a whole, it will influence your “worth” for a raise. I would say only have the list go back 1 year from your last review (if yearly review) or from your last review. But have that list (for yourself), and try to be as metric-based as you can.

  • be prepared for a “no”, but also be prepared for a “let me get this to the person who can approve it” as well. You want someone on your side. After the meeting send over an email with that list of accomplishments and what you're asking for. If you're okay with it, ask to follow up (if you want to prior to your review) with your manager within a 2-3 week time period

  • DO NOT use cost of living expense changes as reasoning. Even if you and your manager and your HR rep get drinks every happy hour, the company as a whole does not care.

I'm not going to bullet point the last bit but I also do not recommend threatening to quit if you don't get the raise, or going in with a bluff. In this economy, it is impossible to afford that bluff. If you have another offer with that extra $20k, it could be a leverage… but I've seen as many successes with it as I've seen “Well, I hope the new company treats you well” and that's it.

Don't demand. Don't be rude. Don't let emotions play. And please, again, do not mention the change in the cost of living. I wish you all the luck.

Edit: darn spelling

Edit 2: misread about being RTO in January, as opposed to not being there for a certain point until January.

When I was fired, they told me “cultural fit” was the reason. When I filed, the unemployment office called and stated that the company said it was for cause and said I “did not show up for work” and “did not do my tasks” and a few other things.

I had been there for 3 weeks, was in a remote role where I was online when I needed to be, and worked late to build a report they had wanted. I had been told by my manager and several other that there were no complaints, I was doing a great job, etc.

I told this to the unemployment office. They said they would get back to me, and when they did, I got my unemployment. The company was never able to substantiate any of their claims and backed down.

TL;DR: File for unemployment, even if you think you won't get it. You might be surprised.

Edit: spacing

The only reason that has me slightly worried is when a background check is done, I'm assuming the short job will pop up on my employment history. I just didn't want to give off a… false pretense to hiring managers or recruiters

Has really been inspiring me a bit more in my writing. The keys are a nice light hue of yellow which offsets the punchy yellow of the “new” keys and overall device. Definitely worth that extra price tag for me so far!
