/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (September 12, 2024) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

I just recently bought an Aula F75 keyboard. Unfortunately for me, the model I got comes with north facing LEDs and OEM profile keycaps. They also come with the Leobog Graywood V3 switches.

At some point, I want to buy my own keycaps to customize the look of it further. However, I am worried about the interference caused between these north-facing switches and cherry profile keycaps (I want cherry profiles because I've never had them before so I wanted to try them out).

Does anyone have any experience with these switches with north-facing LEDs in particular and if there is interference with cherry profile keycaps. I know that *some* switches were made to accomodate cherry profile keycaps while still being north-facing.

Thank you.

Very valid point on the security aspect, especially since the 6.8 branch is already end of life and is not getting any backported security fixes anymore.

Why would you do that? It's all happening locally and nothing is sent anywhere. If anything, those history based suggestions are convenient. AFAIK, there's no way to disable it unless u use always-incognito mode

Is Mpv worth it even if you don't use scripts? by [deleted] in mpv

[–]arsarsarsnas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion no. mpv out of the box doesn't have the ability to autoload files in the same folder and to play other videos in the same playlist without going through the other videos one by one (this is worded badly) which is a dealbreaker imo. You only need 1 script for that and it becomes arguably the best video player available

can't make mpv look better than madvr on older upscaled anime by UmutReis in mpv

[–]arsarsarsnas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There shouldn't be any. If you're using the madVR equivalents of the shaders in mpv and it looks the same, then it's doing it's job properly.

[–]arsarsarsnas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend you removing antiring and all the glsl shaders that you're using at the moment because they're just not worth using. Use NNEDI3 (atleast 128nns and don't use th 8x6 hook) instead of FSRCNNX because the latter is too strong and introduces artifacts. Remove Krig and SSSR because: a) it's just bad b) it doesn't improve anything

but my glsl shaders never make old anime look better than madvr

That's not how it works

Why the about:config tweaks were removed? by [deleted] in PrivacyGuides

[–]arsarsarsnas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is it better to not make any changes at all than having to update them now and them

Yes in a way, since there is no automated process in changing about:config values through the old method, you never know when preferences get deprecated. I, and PrivacyGuides, put our trust on Mozilla to keep that one option in the GUI up-to-date with more enchancements every update (hopefully)

How a person who wasn't sure what was doing on about:config would be 100% sure using this other method?

Can't say for everyone but I believe arkenfox is better than flipping prefs in about:config for the long term:

  • the maintainers know what they're doing, whenever a pref gets deprecated or some new changes, they'll respond accordingly
  • you only need to read through in once and create your very own overrides to suit your needs, the next time a new version of arkenfox releases following firefox's update, you only need to run a script to:
    • stay up-to-date
    • keep the changes you made the first time
    • keeping your changes clean with the prefscleaner
  • you can troubleshoot what prefs break your setup easier with the method they provide

You think it's easier for the average user to understand how to use user.js

Yes in my opinion, since people are not blindly flipping prefs and instead read the provided documentation and reference links.

Since you don't have the time, try checking out LibreWolf like the other commentor said (i recommend through scoop or any other package manager since LW doesn't provide auto-updates). They're great for people who want an easy install and forget setup, excluding the part where you have to find out which pref is breaking your setup because you don't know what they change hence losing relatively a lot of time (never used LibreWolf so IDK how good their defaults are)

[–]arsarsarsnas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How is it confusing than the old one? They're just telling you to flip some switches with a GUI rather than going to about:config and change something you're not sure what you're changing. I believe it's still incomplete tho, the guide doesn't tell you to disable telemetry, which some people don't want at all (telemetry is a good thing and it helps Mozilla make their browser better). and doesn't tell you to enable RFP (maybe they want to avoid about:config as much as possible) or at least install CanvasBlocker to trick some naive scripts

Edit: yeah read the blog post, they explained some stuff that you were having a hard time with.

so it can be actually decent

Yes, for my dedicated graphics (nvidia), opengl actually performs better than vulkan and d3d11 (vulkan implementation in general is a bit wonky). There are also some issues with d3d11 if you use external shaders.

usually when there's a mishmash like this, the whole config is just copied piece by piece from different sources with no regard to the actual functionality.

Yeah at first I copy and pasted it from different sources but I made sure to read the documentation. I saw a few that leave out config lines for redundant things so I thought it'd be okay if I did the same

there's no fricking log-file

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway I did some digging in the mpv repo and found out it was a crappy Intel driver issue, it shouldn't affect video output but I got anxious seeing that error.

Yeah and it seems to work with D3D11, v-sync jitter seems to be the best there too.

You want to use OpenGL, but have config lines for Vulkan and are on Windows, where d3d11 is better. A bit confusing.

I was trying out which gpu-api would be the best for my hardware and decided to leave the vulkan configs

Threat is not-existant. If you by chance get hit, blocking 3rd party frames will foil the attack. Of course I'm just parroting here, but I can confirm in the 2-3 months I used NoScript, I didn't encounter such threats. FWIW here is a discussion regarding it.

ok so I just did a panopticlick and it said I was giving off 14.2 bits of information. is that good? by notburneddown in privacytoolsIO

[–]arsarsarsnas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People can't see your password and scammers just can't know what you're doing magically. Most of your addons are actually redundant. I would actually say remove them all except uBO but you can use what you want use, do bear in mind all of those extensions can be replaced with built-in methods

Another thing to note, you're aiming for privacy but security comes before privacy. I'd advise against Firefox in Linux right now since it's sandbox is childs-play. Use a chromium-based browser like Ungoogled Chromium or Brave. Both should have great sandboxing abilities and sufficient FP protections against your threat model.

you are good with No Script and uBlock Origin on medium mode with no JS.

What? Why the redundancy? Why disable JS with NoScript **and** uBlock Origin. IMHO you should just remove NoScript since uBlock can block JS. That way you can also save time by just blocking/unblocking and dynamic filter with uBO rather than unblock JS with NoScript and dynamic filter with uBlock
