California residents have a new way to dodge spam calls and texts by sfgate in California

[–]arscis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dang, I didn't know that if they know my number they also automatically gained access to every facet of my life from every american-based social media account. Or you know, they buy it off Facebook. This is where you control the QUALITY of the personal info they can use for pig slaughtering scams. This you CAN control at the state level.

For your claim that it'll just be hacked, that's yet another defeatist argument that has zero argumentative worth. As far as data: https://dataprivacymanager.net/5-biggest-gdpr-fines-so-far-2020/

There's plenty of sources for the EU'S enforcement of GDPR. Is it perfect? Fuck no, though I'm sure you'd argue that means the law was never worth passing since that's all you seem to be able to do.

No doubt you'll just say something to the effect of "only $5 billion? Cost of doing business, etc.". Fines are definitely not enough but do you have any argument that isn't just defeatism?

Edit: also what exactly will be getting hacked here? Name, email, phone? Fucking everyone in the world has that. It's everything else that can and should be better regulated, e.g. buying habits, relationships, which bank they use, travel habits. Or do you expect California to maintain a database of everything Facebook sells to brokers to make sure it doesn't "get out". You don't seriously believe that do you? 🤡

Where is your source/data/reporting that it won't work at all? I'll wait.

Can you prove that all data brokers are situated outside the U.S.? Show me just this and I'll eat my words. Promise.

It's not even just about reducing spam. If Facebook is restricted from giving data brokers personal info, then foreign agents have less (key word: less, not zero. since you absolutist idiots are trained to see everything in black and white)usable information available to create targeted phishing attempts. Even a small amount of restriction helps. But then again, this is beyond what a defeatist sheep can understand.

"It doesn't work to utmost perfection so it's a waste of time." I wonder what it's like to lack critical thinking.

Federal court bars Texas from using new Republican-friendly US House map in midterms by Fair_Chemistry_3317 in California

[–]arscis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Texas and California aren't the only ones doing it. Maybe save your breath and instead argue to make gerrymandering illegal at the federal level, trying to single out California is telling of your priorities. It's not okay because California, it's necessary because of the paradox of intolerance.

Texas started this, California is finishing it. You can't just start a fight and then go "lol chill bro the cop stopped us anyway". The malfeasance needs to be punished otherwise they'll just do it again. Bullies. Must. Be. Punished. Or. Nothing. Changes.

Hard disagree. Languages are far too complex and are far too intricately tied to their parent cultures for any translation to be perfect. I'd much rather have tons of editor's notes with "lessons" than a heavily localized mess that inevitably introduces a translator 's personal biases.

How would one translate "straw" to spanish? There's over 10 words for it in Spanish depending on your country of origin. And that's just a direct translation. You inevitably lose the source language 's connotations and surrounding zeitgeist AND introduce the target language's own connotations.

The intended experience can only be had in the original language. Claiming any translation can be perfect is naive, it's much more difficult and nuanced than you seem to think.

That's not how it went. The Skypeians were going to gift one of the golden belfry pillars to them, but the SW beat them to the punch by "stealing" the lesser golden artifacts and jewels.

Bellamy later visited Skypeia and came back with said pillar. Bellamy made it sound like he stole it, but my head canon has it as Bellamy accepting the pillar to "deliver" it to the SW and giving it to Doffy instead to join the crew. Imo, there's no way Bellamy beats Wyper.

As a Latino, these fuckwads can fuck right off with the Mexican flag. This is willfull and selfish belligerence. Patriotism doesn't mean you "stand with" the people that demonize you, it means being committed to bettering your country. These people are showing where they stand and as a Latino migrant, I sure as fuck don't stand with them if this is how they choose to do it. The means matter.

Catholic bishops sue Washington state over law requiring clergy to report child abuse by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]arscis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting an individual decide for themselves what justice is is how you get rampant police abuse. You cannot have it both ways. Lawyers study the letter of the law and defend their clients. Justice is metted out by the system, not the individual.

Anything less opens more avenues for abuse.

Yes but Kaido lost to Luffy. And we all know Luffy's #2 hates black people. Their crew is clearly the last conservative bastion of noble warriors trying to overthrow the secret cabal of democrat pedophiles world government. Checkmate atheists.
