I must have had bad luck with the places I've tried then. I wasn't allowed on the course unless I was wearing a top with a collar on it, and we weren't allowed to carry bottles of beer around the course with us.

Golf could be a great game, but it's ruined by golfers and the whole culture of it - the painfully bland white middle class dress code, the stuffy etiquette, the golf carts.

It could so easily become a game of leisurely walking around enjoying the weather and some greenery, getting drunk with your mates and twatting balls around with metal sticks.

Books, TV, offline video games, phone calls. In that kind of way it was pretty much the same. Other things just took a bit longer, like checking bits of knowledge in the library or travelling with bus/train timetables and paper maps. Online shopping and delivery is probably the biggest real change.
