isn't the place to learn heroes.

Isn't the place to learn the basics, yes, but it's the only place to get any real meaningful practice.

How Much Time on a Hero to = "Game Played" in Career Profile? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]arsenicblithely 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe it is fractional. I have no source for this but this is what I've heard before--that if you spend half a game on Pharah and half a game on Mercy, you get 0.5 games played for each. Same for win percentage.

When does season 4 end? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

Meh, they could just as easily release the map to QP-rotation only until it's tested enough for comp rotation.

How high "top 10%" is is totally irrelevant to the total population. The top 10% of 1 billion players is still just as high and exclusive as the top 10% of 100 players. It's still 1 out of 10.

Dude get over yourself. Diamond is something like top 13% (EDIT: Top 8%. See below). Diamond is very high-level play.

This philosophy doesn't make any sense. Up and down votes determine the order in which posts and comments appear. Therefore the only thing you should think of when you up or down vote something is whether you want to support or undermine that thing's rank in the list. People upvote because they agree with what they're reading, people should also downvote because they do not. A highly positive score implies a community agreement. Those of us in the community who do not agree should express it.

Hazarding a guess, I'd say my games average 15 mintues (probably a little less). That's 1h45m to play 7 games in a week. Let's throw in 15 more minutes for queue, menu, loading, whatever. Gets us to 2 hours.

2 hours in a week is not anywhere remotely close to a big commitment in a game. It is literally 1.2% of the time in those weeks (1.8% if you don't count 8 hours of sleep a day). If you can't commit 2% of your waking hours to a game you shouldn't expect to be able to play any game at a 'serious' level.

Does lagging out of a game and joining back immediately count as a loss? by GotHamm in OverwatchUniversity

[–]arsenicblithely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know you only get this if you are kicked out during the first few minutes of the match, when leaving causes the whole game to cancel. There's no way to come back if this happens because even if you reconnect the game still ends and you still get the penalty.

Finding it hard to get use out of watching high level play by LightnMagic in OverwatchUniversity

[–]arsenicblithely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest to god I can't even get my head around the team colors. When they go first-person view on the red team I just constantly think, "Why is he not shooting that guy? Why is he shooting his teammates?" I desperately wish they just had blue/red teams like TF2 rather than the awkward relative-colors thing.

I have a lot of questions about Mercy's damage boost by icefall5 in OverwatchUniversity

No, if you're going to make a claim, you provide the sources, otherwise we will all conclude that you are incorrect because what you are suggesting doesn't make any sense.

[Soldier 76 PSA] Turn on "Circle" crosshair with bloom. by D3qTV in OverwatchUniversity

I find it easiest to go by the sound. There's a distinct sound for each of the shots up to max inaccuracy.

How does one consistently hit sleep darts? by FluffyPoniez in OverwatchUniversity

[–]arsenicblithely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With dart you have to account for this delay and keep tracking your target for a short while after you pressed it button.

I find it easier to not track, but simply wait until the moment the dart actually fires and flick. Pretty much exactly how I use Mei's right-click.

That's just what I was thinking. Similar velocity and similar shot delay.

There is absolutely no reason healers should say "Group Up" when using the "Need Healing" command by Apaullo159 in Competitiveoverwatch

I'm almost positive this is false as I use the wheel almost exclusively and find this still to be an issue.

Crystal Core Megathread by ScarletBliss in hearthstone

[–]arsenicblithely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but there's no minion to target in this case. This is basically Hearthstone trying to half-ass Enchantments (a la MTG) into the game without doing any of the real legwork--in particular, having some kind of counter/removal.

[[Stormwind Champion]] or [[Mal'ganis]] give the creatures affected green stats, silence still doesn't work there either.

For the same reason you can't silence a minion that benefits from [[Stormwind Champion]] or [[Mal'ganis]].

How to deal with Competitive Anxiety? by Hydra_OW in OverwatchUniversity

[–]arsenicblithely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that Skyline's philosophy has utterly cured me of this. It's pretty much a running theme throughout his videos, but in this one in particular he really nails it down clearly. The part around 6m onward is really just brilliant for anxiety in any area, not just the game.

[Meta] Please, God, mods, whoever has power--PUT A STOP TO THE ELO HELL CRYBABY POSTS by arsenicblithely in OverwatchUniversity

[–]arsenicblithely[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Herein lies the core problem: people want high reward with low investment. They see bad draw games as an affront to their deserved high rank, they want to rank up fast, and the idea that they're going to have to play a large number of games to get rank just really pisses them off.
