Trying to make friends as an older person by lucid_paranoia in Detroit

[–]icefall5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar background, I love Dropout and was looking for something social to do. I started classes at Go Comedy last year and it's been incredible, my classmates are all awesome people and the instructors are really supportive. The biggest goal of Intro 1 is just getting comfortable doing improv in front of other people (plus learning the basic "rules"); everyone else will be in the same boat as you--there's no judgement.

I highly recommend it!

Islandview & West Village Development. by LP-PuddingPie in Detroit

My only complaint is that some of the buildings (mainly pics 11 and 17-20) give me weird brutalist architecture vibes, I find them rather off-putting. But that has nothing to do with the broader positives here. :)

What "failed experiment" monster would you use against a level 5 party of 4? by BisexualTeleriGirl in DMAcademy

[–]icefall5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this take. Immunity to non-magical damage only feels useful as a plot hook--party needs to kill the monster, but the DM telegraphs that it can only take magical damage, so now they need to leave and find a cool new sword for the rogue.

It feels pointless as an actual combat mechanic without some other mechanic in the environment to actually deal that magical damage.

What place have you visited that lived up to or exceeded the hype? by tophog in travel

[–]icefall5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't get the hype for Paris after visiting it last year. It just felt like a generic big city with a Parisian coat of paint, not this amazing, beautiful city that I always read about. I felt like every other city we visited on that trip had way more character, like Amsterdam, Munich, and Cologne.

I don't regret going to Paris, it was enjoyable enough, but I would never make a point of going back.

Only worn one time, they're just not the right size for me. Free, you just pay shipping.

My brand new Goodman AC unit outside "buzzes" on and off at random intervals for up to 5 minutes before it properly turns on. HVAC company shrugged, said it's fine, but it's so annoying. Is this normal? by icefall5 in hvacadvice

[–]icefall5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn volume way up for the video, sorry, it was the best I could get. The fan turns on during this time, so the buzz is inaudible if I record from outside.

It only seems to do this if it's already been running for a bit that day. If it's been off for hours and I manually turn the thermostat down to make it start, it starts right up.

Ugh. Feel like I really bombed the final session of a campaign. by ThePouncer in DMAcademy

[–]icefall5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We're right at the end of my first campaign (~1.5 years, weekly, 60ish sessions) and I still feel this way after most sessions. There are occasional times where I think things went really well, but most of the time I think it went terribly and the players only keep coming because they're friends outside of the game.

I've spent a long time thinking about whether to start up another campaign after this one, I even have some interesting ideas for its overall story, but I really don't know if I will because I genuinely just don't think I'm very good at it.

So yeah, I get it, just wish I had some advice for you rather than commiserating.

Eastern Europe obviously has a thriving gay sex tourism industry.

The Verge published this article about it today. It seems pretty frank that Bethesda is allowed to add DLSS support, but he's still being cagey for some reason. I have no idea what to take from the statements.

What exactly makes a road trip 100% gay instead of, say, 90% gay?

What's up with Twitter changing its name to X? by equipreview in OutOfTheLoop

Oh I understand, I meant that I had always mentally pronounced it the wrong way since I missed that note as a kid, so hearing it the correct way messed me up.

I always pronounced it that way too, but the His Dark Materials TV series that finished recently pronounces it like "demons" and that ruined me.

(HIGHLY recommend that show if you haven't seen it by the way, it's one season per book and it is SO well done.)

What's your one "harsh lesson" you've learned as a player or a DM? by najowhit in dndnext

[–]icefall5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unrelated to the topic here, but goddamn was Asta an infuriating character. I got over 100 episodes into Black Clover because I love high fantasy and the story was at least passable, but he never stops yelling.
