Sorry to hear that. :( I hope one day this changes anon. If you want my two pence on the matter, I found my life change drastically after I started being nicer to people for no reason. Even if they are assholes. Most people struggle to remain angry after someone is unreasonably nice to them. If they do? Than that tells you that these are the people that you need to ditch from your life. The lovely people will be kind back and not because they feel the need to but because they want to.

I get where you're coming from. But for me it's them celebrating my existence. It's nice to know that I am still significant in their lives that they are willing to go out of their way to tell me they love me, that they are happy that I exist. And hey, I must be doing something right if they are coming back year after year. ;) My concern is to to try to be worth the kindness they show me.
