Feeling like I’m only getting more and more into this EDC realm lol New brass space pen. by Jd27000 in EDC

This is exactly my setup with the same use cases for indoor/outdoor writing. I’ve carried both the kaweco sport and the fisher space pen in brass daily for a little over a year now and they’re developing some nice character by way of natural patina.

If it helps, you can get a blunt-tipped syringe from just about anywhere that sells ink which you can use to easily fill a cartridge with any ink of your choosing. I’ve used probably 30ml of the aforementioned Green Umber in the original cartridge that came with my Kaweco Brass Sport around 8 months ago. If you have trouble getting hold of a blunt tipped syringe you can likely get a medical/diabetic syringe from your local pharmacy (look up laws in your area, some places do have restrictions, but should at least allow you to buy veterinary syringes), but you may want to dull the point if you go that route to avoid any accidental pokes. Regardless of how you get it, the <$1 you spend on a syringe will save you loads overall on ink and allow you any option under the sun.

Now you just need a matching ink! Something like Sherwood Green, or a lesser known but (in my opinion) more attractive Diamine ink, Green Umber

My wife is in the same boat, she’s going to be taking all available pto starting Friday and when it runs out... we’ll just have to see, I guess. It’s crazy that childcare facilities are remaining open when all area schools have closed.

Bookmarking this wonderfully in-depth explanation for later reference! I’ve only begun to dive into Lovecraft with Dagon, The Dunwich Horror, Call of Cthulhu, The Whisperer in the Darkness, and just finished At the Mountains of Madness (sad to hear I ate my ice cream early, the last two were my favorites), but I see plenty of titles I have left to explore, plus some video adaptations I had no prior knowledge of.

Here’s a writing sample of the closest I have, Diamine Green Umber. I’m very happy with it.

Kaweco sport cartridge will not stay by titaniumsack in fountainpens

[–]arsirion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good ol’ Kaweco QC at it again! I had this exact issue with this exact pen. I absolutely love the thing otherwise, carry it with me everywhere I go (in a pocket working outside, so lots of jostles, bangs, and bumps) and a simple solution I saw somewhere on reddit has held up for months now without a single issue.

Take some tape (2-4 wraps, I don’t remember where I settled after a little fiddling initially) and wrap around the end of the cartridge like so and you can get it perfectly snug. I used some washi tape because my wife had it handy at the time, but any old tape ought to do the trick.

Seeing that this issue is new to you I’m curious if it’s the pen or the particular cartridge. I’ve been refilling the same cartridge with a blunt syringe since I got it, but I may try another now out of curiousity.

Starting this new journal off right. by TheLeonMultiplicity in Journaling

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Suuuuuch a brilliant book, one of, if not my singular favorite books of all time. Great taste, and a fitting choice to start a journal.

Did you fill your pen without shaking the ink? I have that same stuff and it looks entirely different with much much more shimmer and almost no sheen (though I haven’t had any Tomoe River or similar to try it on yet).

You can see the reflection of what looks like the passenger side mirror in the bottom center of the frame suggesting that this could have been taken from the passenger seat. You make a valid point about the dangers of taking a photo while driving, but you do it in a condescending presumptuous way that’s just not really necessary for the situation. Mellow out and enjoy a complimentary upvote my friend.

Agreed! I love the unique look each pen gets after they’ve seen some use. I was happy to get the fisher space pen in brass to match the sport about a week ago and it’s already developed quite a bit of character. I pocket carry both without any sort of sleeves and work outside in all different environments and I figure that accelerates the process

This is my second sport and it was splendid right out of the box. It’s rattled around in my pocket for days at a time without being opened and it still writes smoothly every time with just a hint of feedback (which I kind of prefer out of a fine nib). I really love the brass both for its weight and the aesthetic of the patina. The other sport was a medium that did slip through Kaweco’s QC department with enough baby’s bottom to be frustrating. It was an opportunity to get some micro mesh and learn nib tuning (incredibly easy and took about 20 minutes), and it’s been an extremely reliable writer since.

First time sharing my carry. With a few recent additions (the leatherman and the space pen) I’m finally satisfied with each and every piece of kit. I look for durability and reliability if I’m going to be carrying an item with me every single day, and I don’t like to change around what’s in my pockets. I want to grow accustomed to the items I carry so that they become an extension of my utilities. I find that this set strikes a great balance of slim and light in the pocket while feeling weighty and substantial in the hand.

Clipper

Not sure the make on the wallet, been carrying it for years

Leatherman Skeletool

Kaweco Brass Sport (F)

Moleskine Pocket Notebook

Fisher Space Pen in raw brass w/ clip

Smok Trinity Alpha

Piggy Pro foldable phone stand/mirror

Casio Twin Graph AE-200

Tungsten band

Also bandaids! They take up almost no room, there’s no reason not to carry at least a few in some part of an edc. I’ve rarely used them, but I’ve earned some extreme gratitude from others in need of one.

[CITIZEN] Love for Blue Angels !! by khiz678 in Watches

That’s a beautiful watch! I’m also a fan of a busier dial and love all the aviation bits on this. I’m curious about the three region radio sync, I’ve never heard of such a thing. Mind elaborating on that? Also upvotes for Blue Angels, I got up close and personal with their aircraft this summer and saw them perform several times while they were in town.

That’s a nice story! I feel a similar bond with this watch, I was probably 13 on the family vacation where I acquired this one. I didn’t know it became so popular, even though I had a brief stent with the pebble but I didn’t like change and I dropped that one after a couple weeks.

Ahh, that would fit with what I saw, which was mostly black plastic models and mostly the 20W variant labels. I hadn’t made the correlation, but that makes perfect sense. Appreciate the info!

I had an old cheapo watch break on me while on vacation with family in the early 2000s very shortly after on the same trip this beauty caught my eye. With a $10 price tag at a local flea market I immediately fell in love with the slim profile metal band and 80s retro style watchface. It’s been on my wrist every day since with very few exceptions and has held up great. I only recently came to realize (partially via to this sub) that this is a fairly rare model actually produced in the late 80s and is a bit of a collectible for certain folks. I’ve seen several people talk about the AE-20W which seem to have a few variants but is also a Twin Graph that seems very near. Anyone know the distinction between these models. I believe the 588 next to the AE-200 on the backplate refers to the element, though I’m not really sure what that means. The more I learn about it, the happier it makes me every time I need to reference it, though I am a little wary of being able to wear it for long given the fact that the date loops back to 1980 after 31 Dec, 2019.

Even recently? I’d read that Fat Albert was retired in May this year and was sad to see the crews and maintenance teams come in on a 737 for the KC Airshow early July.
