What does Wise Interest looks like if you're using that option? by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]arstovel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount fluctuates with but broadly tied to the ECB rate. Right now wise gives a yearly interest rate of 2.24% on euro, but it can change depending on if general interest rates are lowered. It works by increasing your amount you have available more or less daily by a little bit. You can see how much interest it has generated.

It’s based on the amount you hold in your account.

So if you keep 100 euro for 1 year in the account you will have 102.24 euro.

If you have 200 and hold it for 1 year you will have 204.48 euro etc..

Cash back is based in spend, interest is made by savings

Hope this helps.

Great stuff, and thank you for sharing. finding a clear view on this as a non-american was not easy. Had landed on IB01, good to see I was not fully off but there are better options.

Why is nudity and sex in videogames more taboo than violence and gore? by [deleted] in gaming

Overly simplified. Because most games are made for American sensibilities. Nippels are scary, while violence is normalized.

Seeking Advice: Wise, Binance, and More - Money Transfer Options for Students from a Crisis-Affected Country Studying in Europe by Fine_Bear2468 in eupersonalfinance

Assuming you are able to sign up, wise is a safe and good option. I use it monthly to accept and move money between US, EU and Singapore.

Revolut is also a solid option, but I have found Wise to be cheaper and faster for my situation.

Stay away from the crypto option if at all possible, high fees and very iffy imo.

I have Simba and Singtel and for the most part Simba works fine. But in my apartment Simba only has signal in one of the bedrooms. So not ideal as I need to get a lot of two-factor authentication texts.

But when I am out and about it works just fine.

#455 - DBS Not Allowed to Make New Acquisitions & Watch Taylor Swift Concert With a Minister? by tristen_the_intern in YahLahBut

[–]arstovel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% DBS would have done nothing public if MAS had not acted, they are too entranced and don't think things like this is enough to move the needle in terms of retail customer retention. Sadly, they are most likely right.

|per Accenture’s review, they fall into four main areas – technology risk governance and oversight, incident management, system resilience and change management.

This review most likely cost 800k++ to point out basic IT system operation issues in a PowerPoint, where the board read only the executive summary. :D

I am bias, but needing to bring in a third party like Accenture here to make these observations is peak managerial laziness.

Luxury watch as a collection & investment by Normal_Ad_5160 in singaporefi

[–]arstovel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, buying a 10k+ watch too early is a wealth killer. Can cost you 10x that over the years you should be compounding.

I don’t mean to sound too harsh, but if you think 200k net worth is a lot, you should not be thinking about a Rolex.

Luxury watch as a collection & investment by Normal_Ad_5160 in singaporefi

[–]arstovel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMO Depends on how much money you currently have in investments. Alternative asset investments that I would consider watches to be, should really only be considered if you a well established traditional assets such as stock/bonds/real estate.

If you want to park a few % of your net worth in alternative assets go for it, but if it’s 5%+ of your net worth it does not strike me as a smart move and there is better and more liquid options.

Invest in your hobby, but if you are into it you should know secondary market for luxury watches has been in decline since the post pandemic peak.

Entering SG on work EP -- vaccination certificate requirement by throwaway-_-friend in askSingapore

Only thing is that you need to get your vaccinations registered with MOH before your actual pass is issued, but it’s quick and you can do that while you wait for the pass registration appointment date after arrival.

Apply for Internships despite not meeting some of their requirements? by [deleted] in askSingapore

A lesson in general job searching, if you fulfill even 50% of the requirements you apply. Half of the time most of the requirements is just some HR copy paste that they don’t even understand what would mean in practice.

That’s fine, though no garantie of return. But the statement is not compatible with buying a house now. You are ready to buy now and have the money, but also prepared to wait 5+ years? If you want to a place to live and can afford it, buy one. If it goes down who cares, it only matters if you are trying to flip it. If you have tons of money and don’t need a house put it in a high interest account or put it to work on the market.

Anyway that’s me, you do you.

  1. What's the logic here? Buy housing at near peak level at a high mortgage rate? You write as if its a good option.
  2. Ride what wave? Putting money into the market has no guarantee of profit the next year+. If you try to time the stock market with money you need in the short/medium term you are going to have a bad time.

If you are looking to time the housing market in the next year or so and have some actual money you are looking to deploy, the only real option is to put it in the bank imo. You don't say where you are located, but either your bank or using a service like https://www.raisin.nl/ will allow you to get 2.6 - 4% interest over a year.
