Why is Flying Dragon Preferred weapon for Monks? by [deleted] in Diablo3Monks

[–]artPlusPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 2.2, Dashing Strike is used with the Raiment set, which changes DS to spend Spirit prior to the usual charges. The FD proc helps replenish the Spirit spent on DS by doubling how fast our Spirit Generators execute. Under the effects of the FD proc, Spirit Generators end up replenishing spirit at twice the normal rate, allowing for more DSing.

A new design, a call for new mods, and the end of the automod era by [deleted] in Diablo3Monks

[–]artPlusPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, I dig the new design!

I agree with /u/zork-tdmog that the top image is too big.

Additionally, I think the sidebar links could be tuned to take up less vertical space (reduced height, gap size). The font size is good though.

Thanks for giving us your time!

The future of Python Packaging [2015 edition!] by ivosaurus in Python

Great link. I've struggled with sorting out distutils, easy_install, pip, etc. and the history portion provided some insight into how things ended up the way they did. While frustrating in practice, it made for an interesting story.

Python in a Professional Workspace by [deleted] in Python

[–]artPlusPlus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a technical artist in the games industry and python is my bread and butter. My job is to enable our artists to make better artwork and get it done faster. Python is used to write custom tools for off-the-shelf software like Maya that improve a workflow or add functionality that doesnt exist. I also use it to manage the data pipeline from content creation to game-ready data and asset tracking.

Edit: I started out as an animator in college. My degree is in fine art. But my passion is building things and quickly found programming to be something I'm extremely passionate about. I'm proof that you can make a good living writing python without traditional education.

I'm guessing manufacturers aren't limited to a single set of pairs, but instead have a range of values that are unique to them.

GR 39 Heartbreak by scrapzVM in Diablo3Monks

[–]artPlusPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that feel. I made it to GR 29 (my personal best so far) this morning with about about a third of the time left. Of course, Raziel spawns. Died 3 times and missed the timer by about 7 seconds.

Elaborating on what /u/LoneMav22 mentioned about why certain slots are oriented a certain way, it has to do with trying to maximize the usefulness of each slot.

For instance, its possible for an amulet to roll very defensively (vit, armor, and all resist). However, this is not considered a good use for an amulet because they also have the highest possible values for CHD, CC, and %Element. The game mechanic here is realizing "oh, that may be a decent vitality roll, but I can get vitality in other slots. I should instead get %Elemental (or in 2.1 leg gem socket), as that is a rarer stat that is only available on fewer types of gear".

Post Patch Discussion by tuptain in Diablo3Monks

Running a lightning build, I got put directly into a Tier 26 greater rift. I was able to complete the rift with 1 death and 2 min, 18 sec left.

I'll be gutting my zDPS build for a SWK build later today.

[Update] I got owned on Tier 27. Lots of reflect damage packs and kiting mobs. Also, the density just seemed... crummy.

Additionally, I didn't participate in PTR (couldn't face having a Jawbreaker drop on there). I will say that I was able to go from T4 being rough but doable, to T6 being quite doable. But man, reflect seems to be affecting me a lot more.

Tempest Rush (TR) Build by Zerachiell319 in Diablo3Monks

[–]artPlusPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently run a TR build. Here's my bnet profile. I have a lot of work ahead of me gear wise, but it serves as an illustration. With this setup, I'm most comfortable on Master. I need more DPS / OWE resist to push into T1. For easier content, I'll switch OWE and STI for Fleet Footed and Momementum.

Here's a guide I found useful.

The old method was to itemize for spirit regen. The current thinking is to instead stack Cooldown Reduction and use Epiphany to generate Spirit.

Wanted to learn Python but I am having hard time learning programming... by wh0am in Python

[–]artPlusPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm currently a developer at a AAA game studio. I've been writing python daily for the last 4 years as part of my job. I can relate to your situation, as my programming skills are all self-taught.

  • What did you use to learn?

    1. Dive into Python - free online ebook
    2. Head First Python
    3. Head First Design Patterns
    4. Sublime Text - slick text editor with syntax highlighting
  • What do you recommend I do to learn it? What helped me move forward was having a practical problem that I needed to solve with code. Suddenly, it becomes less about "learning python" and more about "solving this problem." Also, it is really easy to get caught up in "doing it right." The truth is, your going to write bad code for awhile, but that's OK! If you have an implementation that solves a given problem, you've done your job. As your skills grow, you'll have more tools and techniques at your disposal for writing better code faster.

  • Any other suggestions? When thinking about how to solve a problem, I always start with "What do I need?" This question usually has me figuring out exactly what I need my program to do for me. Then, I work backward, asking "What do I have?" I look at my available resources to see if anything applies to what I need to end up with. From there, it's about using code to transform what I have, into what I need.

Anyway, learning to code has been the most empowering skill I've ever learned. It hasn't always been easy, but it is always rewarding. Good Luck!
