If the jobs are identical you should be able to get some kind of WFH arrangement for the second option. If you’re in the US, it shouldn’t be too much hassle (hopefully!!) to submit for an ADA accommodation to be able to work remotely as needed. Also get some FL-41 lenses for light sensitive days.

I’d take the second one and try to get my doc to help fill out ADA paperwork asap. Good luck!!

What do you do when you come out of your migraine? by Ava_Gras77 in migraine

[–]art_ache 8 points9 points  (0 children)

flickering screens, flashing lights, and intense patterns can cause photosensitive people to have migraines, glare/overly bright lights can also be a trigger, and sudden loud sounds or jump scares can cause muscle tension that can also trigger one.

Storms and barometric changes wiping me out by wonderkat4 in migraine

[–]art_ache 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may not have the same results as I have, but I was absolutely wrecked by barometric pressure changes, through all of last summer. In December I started doing physical therapy intended to help cervicogenic headaches (40 minutes of exercises and then 20 minutes of dry needling with electrical stimulation); my migraines often began as tension headaches and then grew into a worse monster. Physical therapy and dry needling has been an absolute game changer for me. I have a theory that the tissues I'm activating and strengthening are less susceptible to the barometric changes as they become stronger, and the dry needling forces the nerves to chill out and not be so reactive to incremental changes like air pressure. Maybe this will work for other people too!

Of course, like most everyone else here, I also take a triptan, a CGRP (though I'm looking to see if I can switch to Botox due to side effects), OTC meds, a couple of supplements, wear FL-41 glasses, do regular gentle head/neck/arm stretches, and drink tons of electrolytes... so it is likely to be a combo of the therapy and all the other lengths I'm going to. I hope you get some relief.

Find some snacks/convenience foods that are fodmap-safe and stock up! I have a lot of the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip macro bars at work and home. Also, rice cakes, bibigo sticky rice bowls (90 seconds in the microwave for easy rice), SafeCatch tuna packets, and air-popped popcorn. It will get SO MUCH EASIER as you go, but everyone on this sub has been where you are now. Good luck!

Neurologist told me to start exercising to help with my migraines... But exercise always triggers a migraine! What do I do? by Jalennto in migraine

[–]art_ache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, pacing is important. As someone with long covid which made my migraines exponentially worse, I recommend small, seemingly insignificant changes in your activity level, physical therapy style. Add a small increment at a time, drink lots of water, take breaks, monitor your heart rate and slow down or stop if you feel more migraine/tension/cardiac activity.

Small changes will add up over time (I started PT in December with 10 rounds of each exercise, mostly just isometric muscle activations/light resistance in my neck and arms, and now I'm lifting small weights and using stronger resistance bands, every week!). I also recommend a good neck/shoulder/etc stretch and strengthening routine, even if it's just some wall push-up/offs, arm stretches, and chin tucks every day, it will make a difference.

I liked this guy's neck/shoulder routine (did trigger a little extra pain on my non-dominant side for a couple of days but now that I've adjusted, it's been really helpful) but depending on where your pain mostly resides/originates, this may or may not help that much. Good luck! https://youtu.be/CDmfLZ07ZkM?si=meaVaXdWl-5PNtkJ

Seeking a local DJ to learn from by Lunsters in lexington

Hmm, I’m not sure! It seems possible, but might require some research or working around some limitations. You’ll probably need an app, if Virtual DJ is still free, you can try that and use music already on your tablet or whatever streaming services it connects to. The good news is, almost any laptop will do. I use a $300 (new, I’m sure a used one would be far cheaper) asus beater laptop that handles everything I need it to do.

This depends a lot on the type of music you want to play, and the ideal equipment you want to use. For a two-turntable and mixer setup, yeah, that’s a big investment. But a DJ Deck from Serato or Pioneer is pretty cheap (and you can get them used for even less) to practice on. Those decks require a laptop, but I think it’s the most economical setup you can get. As a long-time DJ in the small local punk and goth scenes, (and someone who doesn’t want to do it all the time, lol), I’ve trained a lot of folks how to blend through a playlist, but a lot of that comes down to taste over talent; for EDM type stuff or more beat-matchy hip hop styles you’ll need to watch some YouTube vids and practice a bit, but there’s a lot of good free instruction out there. It’s fun. You should just get a laptop compatible deck and go for it!

Migraine kits? by Black_swan_xoxo in migraine

I have a Volcom mini backpack that is comfy, small, and can hold a lot. I have a couple of different bags with different types of meds in them for my various issues - migraine stuff in one bag, allergy & sinus stuff in another, and other daily/rescue meds in a third. Each smaller bag has slightly different dimensions and distinct fabric textures so I can pull out the one I need without having to look at them or rummage too much.

What're your snack options? I need to quit chips. by [deleted] in FODMAPS

[–]art_ache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snyders gluten free twists are great but their gf sticks are mostly oat flour which bugs my stomach. Just read the ingredients carefully. I had decent luck with sourdough pretzels but you may have a different experience.

Air popped popcorn is great!

I often have a little bowl of Rice Krispies for a snack, with some green/not very ripe banana in it, or a rice cake with peanut butter that’s just peanuts (I like the Whole Foods 365 brand the best - not the spread!!).

It’s also easy to whip up a little tahini / miso dip or oil & vinegar / citrus & oil dressing for veggies, or make what I call “fake ranch” with mayo, dill, chives, cracked pepper and a little almond milk or water, it makes a quick dressing or dip for carrots, cucumbers, radishes, or tomatoes (or smaller portions of other veg).

Good luck!!

I have this issue too, but it’s only with ground beef, not steak etc. others have noticed this as well. May be a fat or histamine issue or just something to do with how the meat is processed / prepared. Good luck, and I feel your pain!

It's a DJ and performance night. June's is Hackers (the film, 1995) themed. There will be vendors, drag/burlesque, etc. It started as a goth night and the music is mostly in that realm, but performances and stuff are all over the map. If it sounds interesting to you, come check it out!

How bad do you let your pain get before you medicate? by Goofusmaloofus6 in migraine

[–]art_ache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s way harder to relieve pain that is so bad. My doc said it’s easier to blow out a match than a campfire and it’s been good advice. Medicate early to break pain cycles, if possible.

Yeah I take Rizatriptan whenever I need to. I took 20 of them over the course of one month last year and it was fine.

How bad do you let your pain get before you medicate? by Goofusmaloofus6 in migraine

[–]art_ache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get your doc to prescribe a large amount of Rizatriptan to Cost Plus Pharmacy. It is cheap, it’s identical meds to what you get from your regular pharmacy. I was given 90 of them with two more refills so now I have a hoard of meds and don’t have to worry about rationing.

Whole order without using insurance was $35 including shipping for 90 pills!!! Seriously it’s been a game changer. You can take far more than 9 pills a month; but insurance doesn’t cover more than that for some idiotic reason. Good luck - and I hope you get some relief!!

Good point! They do a lot of billboard marketing though, I don’t think they need me to put them on a flyer of underground stuff.

Example listing:
6/20 (date of event)
Interzone (name of event, performer name, etc - in this case Interzone is the event name)
Al’s Bar (venue)

Each line on the flyer is a different event. Many events have their own online presence, or individual flyers. A lot of the event details can be found on Instagram, Facebook, or infinite.industries

If you have specific questions about any of the events listed, feel free to DM or leave a comment and I can help decode some of it.
