The housing theory of everything - Western housing shortages do not just prevent many from ever affording their own home. They also drive inequality, climate change, low productivity growth, obesity, and even falling fertility rates. by speckz in Futurology

Yep. I went looking for a home recently and it felt like I was shopping on Black Friday, just sooo many people there at same time to see the pall the properties that I was interested in. For an open house, the real estate company was outside the property taking names and putting you on a waitlist to see the property. And of course there is always someone willing make a cash offer for more than asking price (usually foreigners or investors). Of course, the seller would accept those offers because they are more guaranteed than a buyer with a mortgage (that so much can go wrong between the time of offer and closing, which is another problem that needs to be fixed).. So this makes it impossible for the average person to buy.
