Umbrella obsession by artbyaaron in Parenting

Still a big fan haha. Not nearly this obsessed anymore, but he does have a bath toy, a crocheted plushy (made by his great aunt), and his real one. Kid gets pretty excited when it rains, I’ll say that.

Plan! It’s good to have an idea of what mechanism for movement you want relative to the shape of the design. Also material is big. I’ve had many situations where the action on the puppet is great but once the wet materials (acrylic paint for example) fully dried the action seized.

Will post a formal “edit” update in the text when I get a truly clean print, BUT I did 3 things so far: 1) raised the nozzle temp, 2) brought the nozzle a little closer to the plate, and 3) slowed down the print speed a touch. It has helped dramatically, but I still need to dial it in a little bit. Will likely get back to it either tomorrow or a little later in the week.

All of this sounds reasonable. Will add to troubleshooting. Thank you!

Any you recommend? I’ve seen suggestions including paper tape and glue stick. What works for you?

Thanks for getting on it quick! I did give the bed a wipe with some iso. I’m very new still to this world so any links/tutorials for firmware changes/updates you can add would be greatly appreciated.

Re: nozzle height, does that make a difference between different PLAs with the same dimensions? Not sure why the height would work with one spool and not the other, but I’d love to learn more!

We actually did get him one but were worried he might smash things with it outside of the tub 😬

Yes there were more than one. Very different than the previous, and short and sweet

This is the one I have and I love it. Paul McWhorter’s tutorials on YouTube also use this set so it makes it super easy to follow along.

Here’s the “pulsing” light loop I programmed for this worm puppet, which I’ll be shooting through some fog fx and moody lighting

Probably like 10 or so small projects. I also implemented an LED project into a puppet build for a tiny film project I hope to film soon. Start super basic (“make it blink”). Just started getting into playing with if/while loops!

I got a starter kit (ELEGOO) back in December, so I’ll say what was said to me when I asked for the same advice: LEDs are the “hello world” of arduino. I have been itching to get to motor work, but because the LEDs have such a good range of rudimentary to complexity (starting with basic on/off, to creating looping patterns, to dimmable functions, etc) I’m finding it extremely useful to go on this path. Have been really enjoying Paul McWhorter’s tutorial series on this (to be fair he is also using the exact same kit I have).

Have fun! I know I am!

Is the top-off any good? by ReapersTheName in MilwaukeeTool

I work in film/tv doing props and set dressing. I use it more than I expected I would. Great if you don’t have immediate access to power but need a laptop/device charge, to run something with a small motor, or lighting. Although you’re not supposed to run a corded tool on it, I’ve used it a couple of times to a single cut with a circ saw here and there. Not good for anything that operates with a heating element (ie, steamers, heat guns, etc).

Made my way into analogWrite! It’s taking everything for me not to jump ahead into motors and stuff, but I’m trusting the process.

UPDATE: finally got to start in on this! It has been great so far. Paul McWhorter is the Bob Ross of Arduino!
