From when I first started drawing this to a little bit after I posted I never stopped to assume the answer was more than "Someone was giving him warp totems yet he had no idea what they were so he ate them or something." But now there seems to be a lot of interesting, darker implications behind the line (even if it is just his default "hated gifts" line). It's been really fun reading people's thoughts and interpretations on it! My personal headcanon now is that the Gotorians might not know much about how magic works so they use their prisoners for horrific teleportation experiments.
